Microsoft quietly dropping support for Gmail aliases (Outlook for Android)

I have been using my Gmail account for a long time in the Outlook app for Android.

Recently I moved to a new Android handset and reconfigured the Outlook app. Now, I don't see any of my Gmail aliases available in the app to be selectable.

I opened a case with the in-chat Helpshift team, and after a very long delay was told that this was a 'feature request'. I sent them screenshots showing the contrary, and even Microsoft's own documentation explaining how to configure Gmail aliases. But it seems to be falling on deaf ears. Why have you done this Microsoft? This kills Outlook for me, I'll be moving to Spark.

N.B. Microsoft have also dropped Gmail alias support in Outlook for iOS. See the thread on that here.
