Compile error in hidden module: Module 1

This may be caused by an error with a 3rd party add-in to Excel.  I presume by Office 10, you mean Office 2010?

In Excel 2010, go to the [File] tab, choose "Options" and then click the "Add Ins" entry in the left-hand list.  You'll be shown a listing of all of the little extras that have been loaded up.  Most likely culprit is a COM add-in.  Down at the bottom of that big window is a drop-down list, choose a group from it to "manage" and click the [Go...] button.  That will let you unselect specific add-ins in that group.  Try unselecting all of them and then test with a known trouble-making file again.

If suddenly the error disappears, you can then start re-enabling the various add-ins that you disabled until the error returns, and you've identified the culprit.

An error like this could be caused by a .xla file that was set up to make calls to the Windows API on 32 bit systems, and suddenly it's trying to do the same in a 64-bit world and it just doesn't work - although there are coding options to deal with this.  You may need to go back to the source of the add-in (if it turns out to be one of them) and ask for an updated version that works with Windows 8 (I presume 64-bit version) and Office 2010 (probably 32-bit version since that's the default installation).

Note: If you have installed the 64-bit version of Office, this problem with 3rd party Add-Ins is known - it is one reason to stay away from the 64-bit version of Office: if you're heavily dependent on 3rd party add-ins that may not have been rewritten to function in a 64-bit environment.  You'd think that all of the add-in makers would have caught up by now, but not necessarily so; especially if it happens to be an add-in created by some individual or very small outfit.
