There has recently been some drastic price cuts to the PS3, especially in Australia where the 160GB model is now RRP $350. But it is actually available in quite a few stores for $299. We now have the crazy situation where the PS3 is not much more expensive than the basic 4gb Xbox 360 model and about $100 cheaper than the 250GB Xbox 360 model. Now we have the Xbox European boss ruling out price cuts in Europe for the Xbox 360. As our console price is linked to UK pricing, then this would seem to indicate there will be no price cut here either (in the short term). What the heck are they thinking? Microsoft dominates with the Xbox 360 in the U.S. and the UK but pretty much everywhere else is dominated by the PS3. Sales figures for the PS3 in the U.S. and other territories have reportedly rocketed since the PS3 price cut yet Microsoft is sitting on their hands. If Microsoft don't cut soon they will get smashed in the sales all through Xmas, Gears of War 3 etc won't save them as price is still a big issue for potential console purchaser. The Xbox 360 must be cheaper to make than the PS3, Microsoft could surely even make bigger cuts than Sony. Hope this is just bluff from the European head, big cuts to the price of the Xbox 360 (and Kinect bundles) in the next few weeks would give a lot of momentum for the big AAA game releases due in the next three months.
