TiVo Roamio audio handshake intermittent over HDMI

Symptoms:

When I start my xbox one, I will frequently get no audio, or far less often I will get HDCP has failed and the video cannot be seen. If I "xbox turn off"  and turn it back on, it will sometimes fix the audio issue. fixes the problem. This happens the majority of power up, and maybe 50% of the time when changing channels or starting playback of a recorded vieo.

As stated above, this issue will also manifest when changing the channel on my TiVo will sometimes cause the audio to stop working, or conversely if the audio is working, cause it to come back. Also have the same experience with playing something that is recorded.

XBOX audio works fine. Just will not pass what is coming from the TiVo

Correcting the issue:

As stated above, if I have no sound, sometimes changing the channel or playing a recorded video will reestablish the audio. Not always successful. Also changing the video source on my AV Receiver to something else and then back will sometimes fix the problem. Re-seating the HDMI input on the back of my XBOX will often correct it, but not always.

Things I have tried to resolve:

I have tried getting all new HDMI cables (higher quality but Amazon Basics brand). Problem persisted.

Checking all my AV settings on AV Receiver and TV to ensure CEC is turned off.

Bypassing the xbox one seems to solve the problem but since it is intermittent really need a larger sampling size to make sure

Replaced AV receiver (previous Onkyo was replaced with Sony)

Connections:

TiVo Roamio Pro <-> HDMI <-> XBOX ONE <-> HDMI <-> Sony AV Receiver <-> HDMI <-> Samsung TV

Conclusions:

Since the problem is pretty intermittent, I doubt it is some overreaching compatibility problem. to me it seems something is flaky with with the handling of HDCP handshakes.

Update:

The last few months have been much better with rarely an issue with the HDCP handshake. However in the last week, it has become a 100% fail rate. Every time I turn on my entertainment system ("XBOX On" command), I get the xbox error message that it cannot connect to my set top box, which is my Roamio Pro.

In the past, I could force the handshake to re-establish with a change of input on my stereo receiver or powering down the receiver or even just shutting everything down and turning it all back on. That no longer seems to work.

This has happened 100% of the time in the last few days. Each time I power up my entertainment system, the HDCP handshake appears to have failed and I get the message my set top box is not connected. The only way that seems to allow the handshake to finally work is literally unplugging my Roamio and plugging it back in. This is a pain. There is no power switch on it, so you have to unplug and plug it back in.

Whatever updates were done on the Roamio or XBOX in the last week or so has totally *** up HDMI pass-through on my XBOX.

It is basically unusable now. I am either going to have to install a switch into my power feed for my Roamio to hard power it every time I turn on my entertainment system, or I am going to have to remove the pass through  and go directly from my Tivo to the AV receiver.

I like running through my xbox, when it works. I just wish this HDCP crap was not such a huge pain in the butt to make work properly (Thanks MPAA)

I'm going to assume you are using surround sound. The XBox One and TiVo have not played nice when it comes to surround sound since the XBox One came out. I've had the same problems as you and it is quite annoying. I believe the latest TiVo update really increased the severity of the issue as well. Laggy responses when fast-forwarding, freezing when forwarding, audio going away and have to hard reset the XBox to get it back, and some times even no video. It's a huge mess and I'm surprised they still haven't figured it out. Microsoft's whole plan was to make this thing the entertainment center, but they are really *** the bed when it comes to such a basic thing.

I emailed Tivo and they basically just said that the XBox One is not a supported device, and that to fix the problem I need to not hook it up to my XBox. It seems to me that neither company is working with one another to fix this issue. I doubt it will ever get fixed.
