Sigh, so close...

Seriously, **** Shao Khan. **** him sideways with a rusty rake laced with molecular acid lube. I am SO sick of this sorry excuse for a boss. Nether Realm: This isn't the arcade days anymore. You aren't trying to milk quarters out of people in arcade machines. LEARN HOW TO MAKE A BOSS RIGHT, you lazy ****ing hacks who still have your heads stuck up your butts in 1991.

Even if you take away Khan's utterly BS "super armor" the miraculously absorbs ANYTHING you throw at him at will, he's STILL ridiculously overpowered. "Oh hay, let's give him like 2 different ultra fast dash moves that have NO RECOVERY TIME whatsoever. Oh yeah, and here, have a hammer projectile that CAN'T BE DUCKED and STUNS YOU ON BLOCK. Oh, and don't forget the X-Ray attack (which ironically, is one of the WEAKEST LOOKING X-Rays in the game from the cosmetic aspect of it) that takes off like 53% of your life bar." Really? A frigging HEADBUTT does more damage than being stabbed in the occular cavity (TWICE) with Baraka's blades or Kitana's fan? Interesting!

Anyhow, sorry for the rant, but I did something I rarely let a game do: it got me fuming. I've been trying for the Ladder Master achievement (legitimately, people, I don't want to hear about the pansified ways you can make it "easier" kthnx) pretty much ever since the game came out. Well. tonight I get alllll the way to Shao Khan as Sheeva without losing on Expert, after even having some close calls against Shang Tsung and Kung Lao (who REALLY has Sheeva outmatched, BTW).

First round against Khan, I was beating him fairly convincingly, then out of nowhere he gets me in the corner with his go'damn X-Ray attack. Round over. Next round, I pretty much wipe the floor with him with no close calls. Final round, I get him under half life, everything looks good ... until ... he manages to hit me with one of his hammer projectiles (I blocked, since I didn't have time to jump over it or Teleport Stomp). Then what's he do? He literally just KEPT THROWING THAT HAMMER like 6-7 ****ing times in a row. I don't know if you've ever gotten into this "trap" before, but when it hits you, he can just keep you there in a stun for as long as he likes. There's NO WAY out of it. So, I stood there, watching my life dwindling away, hammer after hammer, with NOTHING I could do to stop it. By the time he finally decided to stop hurling hammers, I had like a fraction of health left, so it was only a matter of time before his friggen super armor saved his worthless ass as I hit him, and it did ... and I lost.

Ugh, I've never been so close to throwing a controller down in disgust in my life. Eat a ****, Nether Realm, for shaving about a year off my life from a rage outburst. -_-

If the game gets you to do the above because of its difficulity ^ you know it's a good game.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to add: After he beat me and I continued ONCE? He practically rolled over and died for me like the little ***** he is. That was like the ultimate slap in the face right there. I was like "Really? You couldn't decide to be ultra cheap AFTER I did this?" I wouldn't have cared if I never beat him AGAIN after getting the Ladder Master achievement, but this took the wind out of my sails so much it makes me sick to my stomach to even THINK about trying again. >_>

Well see, that's the thing. Shao Khan isn't "difficult" because he's "good." He's difficult because these go'damn one trick pony relics they had programming the AI are still using the same lame "tactics" they used on their old arcade machines back in the 90s. All it does is read your controller inputs and react one of two or three ways to counter them. Seriously, it KNEW anytime I was trying to do Sheeva's Ground Pound across the screen, because the INSTANT I even started to touch "down" on the controller, guess what? Shao Khan came out of nowhere and nailed me from over half-screen with his shoulder charge/dash ... EVERY TIME. And the rare instances where I DID get a Ground Pound off, guess what happened? His super armor absorbed the blow and I still got hit in the face with a shoulder charge, or a spear, or a hammer. Classic, arcade boss BS.

WHY would they make it like that? It's one of two reasons. 1) Pure, unadulterated LAZINESS. 2) They're simply INCAPABLE of programming anything but "arcade AI." Either way, this whole experience just reminded me why it's always horrible playing fighting games against the AI.

Man, I would have flipped. I haven't even started for the Ladder Master yet, I'm ganna try to do it for real too, instead of spamming a move over and over.

Khan is pretty much cheap. The hammer doesnt really bother me it's more of those shoulder charges. I mean, good god, it's bad enough that when you jump over him he can turn on a dime and hit you with the thing. But it get me going when you go to jump over him and he does that up shoulder charge. It's like he can friggin' read minds and goes into that before you even jump.

I wish they had just made him as he is without the invincible armor, that would take the cheapness out. He's already got super attacks and we do so little damage to him.

Trust me, when Khan does to you what he did to me (and he probably will), you'll despise that hammer toss as much as I do. I don't think you get what I was saying. When you get hit by his hammer projectile, it doesn't knock you down. It  leaves you standing there helplessly stunned for a good 3-4 SECONDS. And the recovery time on that hammer throw is so low that he can literally keep you in a standing stun-trap until he either gets bored or decides to take pity on you. Do you know how fast that aspect of him would be nerfed if he was actually a playable character? It makes him totally BROKEN as a boss, and it's like those lazy dip****s at Nether Realm specifically programmed him to "cheat" that way if he gets in danger of losing on Expert. =/

I will agree that Shao Khan is the hardest boss since... well Seth from Street Fighter. But at least Shao Khan is SUPPOSED to be broken as opposed to Seth, who just move reads everything you do.

I know what you mean. That hammer just leaves your character standing there in a stupor as he continues to throw it. he's done it to me a couple times, and the only way I got out of it was he taunted after hitting me with one and i jumped, the second hammer still hit me, but it didn't daze me. It is pretty cheap, it's either that they were way too lazy like you said, or they really just wanted to tick us off. It does seem like when there's something riding on the fight that he just goes super cheapo, and then when fighting him doesnt matter, he's a pushover.

Same thing happened to me a while back but it was in challenge tower. I really wanted to finish challenge tower without skipping anything but sh*t like Kahn's spamming is just enraging and impossible to get around when the game feels like being a d*ck. I ended up skipping maybe 5 total challenges just because of cheap retarded stuff like you mentioned.
