Xbox Slim tray opens and closes itself (Touch button problem?)

Hi!

Just bought a new Xbox 360 S 250Gb and the tray has gone crazy and made me nuts too... It opens itself randomly... usually it makes the "BING"-sound, opens and closes the tray for like three times in a row and then just stops... It really makes me crazy bacause when it ejects the disc, the game stops also. You can imagine the steam coming out of my ears... When a nice session of mass effect 3 multiplayer is going on and lot of XP coming... Then suddenly my beloved console decides to go BING BING and out comes the disc and the game stops... Me staring the dashboard with a tear that is falling down my cheek... and the small child inside of me screaming: NOOOOOO!!!!!!

I tried cleaning the "button" with micro fibre cloth, but it still happens completely random from time to time... Is my only option to send the console back? Please... my inner child calls for your help! ='(

Small addition... My console started up all by itself... "BING", tray opened and nicely loaded the dashboard. Cool... but scary as hell when you're trying to sleep... gave me the creeps... so i turned the console off and went back to bed...  couple of minutes and guess what... BING and xbox was on. Scared the crap out of me again... This time i pulled the power cord off... If it still boots up, then I will have to call the ghostbusters... =D

But I guess I'll be sending my dear xbox on a journey to service

Ive noted this happen before on the slim xbox 360s, I called xbox support up and they sent the xbox off for a repair. In addition to the button problems i had a disk half way into the disk tray (as you can imagine that was horrible to hear a crunch sound!, Luckly Microsoft offers a disk replacement program for fault enduced problems. I would recomend having a chat with the support guys. They can often provide simple diagnostics and will help resolve this problem for you. (hopefully this helped sort of.)

Just a word of warning even though this is an old thread now, if you're like me, you're going to have this problem again. I sent mine off after experiencing the exact same issue and it was fixed, now several months later its doing it again and my warranty is over so I guess I'm screwed entirely cus I don't have 100 bucks to go get it fixed again, these touch buttons were an awful idea, I wish i could get push buttons installs instead, this is stupid, I'm going to forever be stuck with a system that turns itself on and off and opens its own tray whenever it wants. Now I wish I'd just gone for an elite instead which is sad, because aside from the buttons, this console is beautiful and works wonderfully, nice and quiet and well vented, never any issues aside from the buttons -sigh- hope you get lucky and yours doesn't repeat the problem again like mine.

Keira, I know self repairs are frowned upon by the powers that be BUT I had this same issue and the only thing that ever fixed it for me was detaching the connector under the face plate for the power/eject buttons. I mean I use the controller to turn my Xbox on and eject discs anyway. Not a solution for everyone probably but if you're oow and want an easy fix, it's worth a shot 😊

Hey there mamamonkey420! This thread is pretty old so I don't think it's getting much traffic anymore.

Hey there Mister Cerb! Thanks for stating the obvious but people may still get the email notifications for a reply to the thread ;) Great way of nicely saying my advice is "not xbox support advised" and I need to keep it to myself LOL

It is freaking me out too! THIS DAMN 360 is HELL! And since I'm in India, I can't send this to repair into a centre since I don't know any. I just wish from rage that I'd remove the drive's button from there so that I can use the dashboard and. Hand to open and close respectively.
