HELP!!! Tranferring Saved Games and Profiles from old XBOX HDD to new Elite system - 4G

I have frickin' tried everything.  Bought the HD transfer cable for 360...Elite only recognizes it as a USB and won't transfer games (yes, system is updated based on my XBOX Live profile I recovered online).  Transferred all the folders of CONTENT file from HDD drive to my PC, transferred them to a 16GB USB stick (after letting XBOX partition it) and while it is recognized it shows all the folders are empty-no saved games-no profiles.  I even burned the files to a CD and tried to transfer them but the disk drive in the Elite won't recognize the files and all I get is "open tray".

I don't know what else to possibly try???  Any clues?  How do I get the Elite to A) recognize the old HDD via the transfer cable or B) get the contents of CONTENT folder from HDD now on my PC (10.8G) over to Elite?

bringing them to a pc won't work nor will copying them to a dvd

I forgot to mention that XBOX 'a' is dead, it had the 3 rings of death twice and I fixed but now it's gone for good so all that I have of it is the HDD.

the elite is built in so there's no attaching, maybe I have the slim, I assumed they are the same, it's a brand new 4G xbox 360, but yes, I'm attempting to attached old HDD via transfer cable I bought but the recognition screen I'm supposed to get to transfer content never comes up.  Also, I have the 10.8G of files from CONTENT folder saved to a 16G USB stick but when the xbox reads the stick it shows all the categories to transfer files from but they are all empty, 0 of 0 to transfer.

Not sure what you mean, smaller to bigger.  They are both 4G hard drives, one is old/external, one is new/internal.  Per all the forums I should be able to transfer these files pretty easily but all 3 methods I've tried come up empty.  I have the transfer cable, which only hooks up on one end to the HDD of old XBOX and USB port to front of new XBOX, that's the only way to do this correct?

okay, thanks for the info but besides the technical tip do you have any other ideas of how I can accomplish getting the saved game and profile info off the old HDD and onto the new XBOX?

at this point goto a friends house and attach the drive them transfer onto a usb drive

(there is another method but we cannot discuss that one)

you could always buy a 250gig s drive

which you might consider because there is games that require a hd and the 4gig or flash memory is won't replace it

When I go to this buddies house should I hook the old HDD up via the transfer cable and also insert the USB stick and move the files that way, or should I take out his HDD and replace with mine, then try and transfer to the USB?

Thanks!
