windows live mail 2011 vista cannot create an email

since last week, I cannot create or forward an email.

i  am still receiving the email.

Default port setting as under

outgoing Mail (SMTP) 25

Incoming Mail (IMAP) 993

I am also getting view certificate messages for some incoming email and I have to click 3 to 4 times fro email to display correctly.

Windows Live Mail is a discontinued product and it's possible that your e-mail accounts (e.g., Hotmail, GMail, Outlook.com, your Internet Service Provider, etc.) have finally stopped working with Windows Live Mail.  See the article Microsoft is Killing off Windows Live Mail – What Should I Do?.

I still use Vista's built-in Windows Mail e-mail program.  If you have MS Office installed it might come bundled with an MS Outlook mail program that you can also use.

The standard TCP ports for most e-mail servers are Port 25 for SMTP (outgoing) and Port 110 for POP3 (incoming) messages.  I prefer to use the secure SSL/TLS Port 587 for SMTP-S and Port 995 for POP3-S for the Windows Live (now Outlook.com) mail server (<username>@live.ca) and my Shaw Communications ISP mail server (<username>@shaw.ca) but other mail accounts you use might require different ports for their server.

Here are sample settings on the Servers and Advanced tabs of my Windows Live (Outlook.com) account in Vista's built-in Windows Mail program. My outgoing mail server uses authentication because I use a secure SMTP-S port.

My ISP Shaw Communications (Canada) has an article on their support site at https://community.shaw.ca/docs/DOC-1053 with instructions on how to set up Vista's Windows Mail application for sending / receiving messages with their Shaw mail server with standard TCP ports (Port 25 for SMTP / Port 110 for POP3), and your ISP should have a similar document on their support site.

I use Windows 10 and have been having the same problem.  After chatting with Microsoft tech support I was told I need to pay to download Outlook mail...

Using Outlook might make sense if you subscribe to MS Office 365 or have purchased an MS Office suite that comes bundled with Outlook, but the free Windows Mail application that comes with Win 10 is sufficient for most users - see the Windows Central article Outlook vs. Windows Mail: Which email client is right for you? for more information.

I also know several Win 10 users who prefer to use Mozilla's free Thunderbird e-mail application, which is compatible with Win 7 and higher operating systems.

However, I like the Windows live Mail as it has read receipt feature which I believe is not in outlook or office.

Also it seems bizzare that suddenly the WLM stops creating and forwarding or replying to an email but I am receiving the emails.

It seems to me that Microsoft wants to make users buy their new software, like apple who made old ipad and iphone go slow by upgrading the software.

These are big conspiracy by big businesses to fleece consumers to upgrade their hardware and software. Why would you want to upgrade if old software which has been working fine for 10 years.

I have been using HP Vista laptop for over 10 years but now sparingly as I use ipad for most of my email and shopping etc.

For deleting unwanted emails, I find WLM very good for sorting by sender and just clicking all the ones to delete in one go.

I am in the process of creating new email account with same address to see whether that will,sort out the issue.
