Hi,

Glad that you posted the question in Microsoft Community. I will definitely try and help you get the issue resolved. However before we begin, please answer these few troubleshooting questions.

1.       Since when are you facing the issue?

2.       Are you able to boot to the desktop?

3.       Do you have any third party security program installed on the computer?

4.       Are you aware of any changes made to the computer prior to the issue?

Method 1:

If you are able to boot to the desktop then you may follow the steps and check if it helps.

a)    Press the ‘Windows + W’ key on the keyboard.

b)    Type troubleshooter in the search box and then press enter.

c)    Click hardware and sound and run the hardware and device troubleshooter.

If you are not able to boot to the desktop then you will need the Windows 8 installation DVD to perform an automatic repair.

Method 2:

Insert the Windows 8 Installation Disc; click on Repair your System.

b)      Click on Advanced Startup Options.

c)       Click on Windows Startup Settings.

d)      If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

e)      If you are using the Windows installation disc, click on Automatic Repair.

f)       Click on Apply, click on OK.

Method 3:

You may also perform a System Restore from Windows Recovery Environment to the date when the computer was working fine and check if it helps.

a)      Insert the Windows 8 Installation Disc; click on Repair your System.

b)      Click on Advanced Startup Options.

c)       Click on Windows Startup Settings.

d)      If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.

e)      f) If you are using the Windows installation disc, click on System Restore.

f)       Click on the Restore point during which the System was working fine.

g)      Click on Apply, click on OK.

You may also refer the article which has some good steps to help improve the performance of the computer.

Hope this helps and provide us with more information if you need further assistance. We will be glad to assist.

1. I have been facing this issue since I installed Windows 8 Pro.

2. Yes I am able to boot to the desktop.

3. I only have Windows Defender which came with Windows.

4. Am not aware of any changes made prior to the issue, as I said the issue started when I installed Windows 8 Pro.

I did Method 1 and it came back 'The troubleshooter made some changes to your system.  Try attempting the task you were trying to do before.'. So will check to see if the issue is still there and will report back, thanks Rohit.

Hi Rohit, I have noticed the issue is still there, and I have also notice this warning from User Profile Service; Event ID 1530

'Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

Detail -

1 user registry handles leaked from \Registry\User\S-1-5-21-114453956-2636402065-546677835-1005: Process 408 (\Device\HarddiskVolume3\Windows\System32\svchost.exe) has opened key \REGISTRY\USER\S-1-5-21-114453956-2636402065-546677835-1005\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall'. I don't know if they are related to the first issue, please help.

Not trying to jack this thread but I'm having the same issue? Any fix?

This issue has been present on my system since upgrading to Win8 Pro from Win7 Ult. I have done a fresh install with no apps using another drive and having the same issue. Still having the issue coupled with unexpected shut downs.

I have the same error and sometimes the notebook won't enter sleep state even if set to do that. My error is slightly different, it refers to state S4 and not S5. The rest is exactly as above.
My system: Lenovo Tinkpad Edge 11, 8Gb RAM, Windows 8 Pro fresh install, no changes from the default windows settings.

I also am having this issue, brand new install of Win 8 from TechNet on an Asus Crosshair V Formula-Z mobo with an Asus HD7770-DC-1GD5-V2 Radeon Graphics and AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Quad-Core. I'm not doing any overclocking of CPU or GPU as I want it to be solid before I try that.

I noticed that if I set the display to go to sleep in the Power Scheme, sometimes after waking up the machine would turn on but the video would not come back and I'd have to reboot. I also got the aforementioned event:

"The system firmware has changed the processor's memory type range registers (MTRRs) across a sleep state transition (S4). This can result in reduced resume performance."

I fixed the wake-up issue, but I'm not sure which of two things did it. I updated my video driver from the Asus website and I also disabled fast startup, which is method 3 in the following article:

to all.

** this THREAD was started on Nov 11., 2012.

this QUESTION goes Un-answered by the MS folks.

10 other users report the same Question.

Mr. Chettri's (Forum Moderator) "answer" is not a useful solution to resolving EVENT 137 and appears to be a standard canned response from MS folks supposedly here to help.

Does Mr. Chettri not realize that **these FORUMS are MS's primary Customer Support and Customer Service venue??

------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Those POSTING to this thread are *Not helping either.

1.) The QUESTION has already been Asked (see Post #1).

2.) The QUESTION is well stated and to the point.

3.) The Title of the thread is:  Kernel-Power Error, Event ID 137.

4.) The QUESTION is how to address Error Event ID #137.

If a visitor also needs an Answer to the original QUESTION, an appropriate response is *NOT adding another POST to the thread telling us you also have the same problem.

The *appropriate response is add your self to the "I HAD THIS QUESTION ME TOO" box located  at the top of the thread and to the right of the first post'ss QUESTION.

Try the "Answer" solution. If it does not work,

THEN, subscribe to the tread and see what happens.

Its important that if many folks have the same problem, a no-one finds that the Answere provided by a MS TS person works !!

Its how the system works.

IF we "Posters" to a thread have the same QUESTION, and demonstrate appropriate FORUM practices and standards, perhaps a knowledgeable MS-TS person will respond with working answers.

And if not, then me and You have a right to be Dis-satisfied!

update

-> I am complaining about the lack of Customer Support/Customer Service from MS.

> I am complaining about how some MS Community Forum moderator's 'answer' a QUESTION and  then leave the thread; *never to return.

-> I am complaining about the fact that one Moderator suggested to close an other EVENT 137 thread and start an new Event 137 thread.  What kind of answer or response to a QUESTION is that...?

-> I am complaining about no answer to EVENT 137 and how several dozen other MS OS users do not have an Answer to the QUESTION !!!

Have the same problem on a Mac Pro 5,2, dual boot to Win 8 or Mtn Lion.  In my case, I do not notice any decrement in performance after password log on following a sleep state. Since this computer is to be used in cancer research,  an error of this kind poses a threat to data integrity. Would the MS community experts please examine this problem and provide the now 9 users here advice on resolving the issue?  Thank you,

Paul
