Error Code 80245001

Windows 7 Ultimate X86 32bit, Version 6.1.7601 Service pack 1 build 7601, antivirus Microsoft Essentials only no third party cleanup or registry cleaner Explorer 10    While looking for answers found Jose Posadas reply of Update Readiness Tool, did it no results, went to his next question no failed updates since march. all reasonable. Next went to system info looking for three services to stop. The first AutomaticUpdate Service was missing the other two Background Intelligent Transfer, and Cryptographic service were there. Is this what's going on! Update service has somehow been deleted from my computer.I Error Code states updates could not be checked.  I attempted to go to the update site from IE the site would not open. I haven't performed any of the steps Jose mentioned but would very much appreciate your input on this matter. Now, when Downloading the Update readiness tool the site downloads a Hotfix KB947821 this update is included in the history but according to Windows my last update was on June 13th 2013. Today July 13th 2013 was the first notification  of an error in update attempt. I run Essentials daily and the last scan was at !:00am successful w/o threats. I Quarantine all threats nothing found.  The only major download I have made recently was on June 3rd. I drive backup, I only back up personal folders and programs no full back up.  I have it on 3 computers on a wireless connection home network. My others are having no update problems and have Windows 7 home edition x64 and XP home premium. Contact me if you need any more info.

Thanks much Pat

Hi Pat,

Here are the services responsible for the Windows Updates.

1. Background Intelligent  2. Cryptographic service  3. Windows Update service.

Automatic updates was the service name for Windows update service in Windows XP.

Here are a few things you may try and check if it helps.

1. Make sure the date and time settings on the computer are correct. If they are not, then please set a proper time.

2.  Perform Reset Windows Update components.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058/en-us (Run the troubleshooter or else perform the steps under "Let me fixit myself")

Note: Before running the fixit, please do take a backup of the registry.  http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows7/back-up-the-registry

Also go through Jose's post and rename the Catroot 2 and Software distribution  folders and check.

Note: The steps mentioned in the link are applicable to Windows XP.

Pat,

If you receive the error code while checking for updates, then try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2730071/en-us

Also, try to disable the three Services that I have mentioned earlier, restart the computer and then start the Services and then try to check for update.

If it fails, try to reregister the DLL files and check.

1. Open a notepad.

2. Save the following in the notepad.

net stop bits
net stop wuauserv
Del "%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network\Downloader\qmgr*.dat"
sc.exe sdset bits D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
sc.exe sdset wuauserv D:(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;AU)(A;;CCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRRC;;;PU)
cd /d %windir%\system32

3. rename the notepad as TEST.bat and save it on desktop.

4. Right click on test.bat and click on Run as Administrator. Wait till the process completes, restart the computer and then check for updates.

Download the latest Windows Update Agent from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949104/en-us and check if that helps.

Let us know the outcome.
