UNexpected shut down during virus scan

MY son has a eMachine laptop, when we try to run a full virus scan (Norton Antivirus 2011 BETA) the machine will let the scan run and then after a while it will shut down due to an unexpected error. Any ideas why?

I am happy that your problem resolved.

to Itknowledge24, I am agree that Norton should be removed thats why in my post I suggest As preview poster said Beta product are NOT error free and they are in Beta because they want user to try tthem and report bug to them.

However, sometimes this behavier might cause by Malware and NOT only product, therefore I suggest scan in safemode to remove threat first and then uninstall Norton. Just in case that uninstall Norton in already infected PC might cause more Malware get into systema and harder to remove it.

However, the problem of Gulf addict has been resolve and I am glad.

I have uninstalled the Beta version of Norton and installed MS Essentials. I ran a scan and everything is good.
