What is exclusive mode and what does it do?

I was just wondering so I knew whether to use it or not. I'm not sure what changes when I uncheck it, so I was wondering if I could get some inside info on it.

Also, since there is no help about it in the Help & Support app I was wondering why? Since this is a new addition I would have imagined there would be help or support for it.

Answer

Its does exactly what is say: Allow

If a program wants to get exclusive use of the audio device it can get it if you check this option.

Some audio drivers talk straight to the sound card, bypassing the Windows audio engine.

If they do they need exclusive access otherwise you can get very unpredictable results like a second audio stream sending its output to this device using a different sample rate and of course, as the first stream by passes the mixer, the result is garbage as no mixing will take place

Checking/uncheking won’t do anything until an app tries to get exclusive access.

This happens if you use WASAPI or ASIO as an audio driver.
