Every time my computer boots up on startup or restart I get this windows pop-up requesting I choose an app. “You’ll need a new app to open progid”, “look in Microsoft app store”.
This started when I updated Opera browser Jan 5 or 6. The opera browser started up multiple windows at boot up. No setting to prevent opera to start on every bootup. Went through all the settings for opera and could not find a way to turn this off. So just uninstalled opera browser. Opera browser is no longer on my machine.
That is when this Windows pop-up requesting app for Progid started for every boot up.
I checked registry admin and registry user startup entries and nothing about Opera.
Before I uninstalled opera I checked all these places for startup of opera:
C:\Users\user1\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\StartUp
Nothing about Opera there.
I checked startup in admin task manager - nothing about Opera there.
I checked MSConfig - nothing about Opera there.
How do I get rid of this windows pop-up? How do I find the source?
I run i7 haswell midtower-desktop, 15GB memory, 500GB SSD, 2GB video card & Windows 10 Pro 1709, Windows firewall. I use my computer in a normal user account not an administrator account. I vigilantly keep everything updated daily. Or at least every three days I check EVERYTHING for updates.
