Error: 0x800F0922 when installing KB 2919355

This error may appear for multiple reasons. Some common causes are VPN clients and an unexpected System Reserved Partition size.

Try removing any VPN Clients and attempt the update again.

You might be able to fix this problem by using third-party software to increase the size of the System Reserved partition.

If you have tried both solutions and you still experience Error 0x800F0922 please contact Microsoft Support so that we can further investigate your issue.

I've been getting error 800F0922 when trying to install KB2934018 (part of 2919355) ever since I did an in-place upgrade using the MSDN ISO just to get the regular 291935 update installed.

Now, I'm getting this same error message (800F0922) when trying to install KB2955164 (released yesterday) and also when trying to upgrade to Windows 8.1 Pro using a license key and the anytime upgrade program.

This is the error that keeps appearing for all three of these in my CBS logs which seems to be causing the rollback and the "undoing changes" message:

2014-05-14 16:35:08, Error      [0x01803e] CSI    0000000e (F) Failed execution of queue item Installer: CSI HTTP Advanced Installer ({86fee01a-954a-11df-bc0c-cea7dfd72085}) with HRESULT HRESULT_FROM_WIN32(1009).  Failure will not be ignored: A rollback will be initiated after all the operations in the installer queue are completed; installer is reliable (2)[gle=0x80004005]

What is this CSI HTTP Advanced Installer and why is it failing? Also, here is a screenshot of my partitions:

I can see that the system reserved partition has no space left, but I can't seem to extend that any more than it already is. There just isn't an option to resize it, unlike the other partitions.

And I already have a case open with Support, but they're not helping at all. I was literally told just to ignore the update and hide it in Windows Update, even thought this same problem is causing my Windows 8.1 Pro upgrade to fail, which I'd really like to get installed.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has some insight on this whole dilemma.

Brett

The last two times I have attempted the manual install of KB2919355, it appears to succeed until the very end when I get the "we couldn't complete updates, undoing changes" message. On both of these occasions I have gotten error code 800F0922. In between I have attempted an to install via Windows Update and got a different error code (80246007). I have been trying to install this update for over two weeks now, have tried everything suggested in the forums and what little is available through the MS Support site all to no avail. Words cannot describe the frustration level generated by this POS update.

I'm getting this error on my laptop however my desktop which was a clone of the laptops build installed fine.

I have no VPN clients installed and I just increased the System Reserved Partition by another 200MB. The update still fails with this error code:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x800F0922: Windows 8.1 Update for x64-based Systems (KB2919355).

Windows update gets to 99% before rolling back.

What next Microsoft?

PS - Your above link to Microsoft support does not work

Still getting error 0x800F0922 on my desktop while attempting to install KB2919355, KB2961851 and KB2962123.

I don't use any VPN Client and tried all the solutions from the previous thread, including the System Reserved Partition increase to over 1GB. Like mentioned above, the update goes to 99% before rolling back.

Weirdly the 8.1RT version installed just fine on my Surface.

I have tried installing the update so many time, every time same error. I have no VPN clients installed  in my system and i think i have plenty of GB spaces in C drive, I'm just a frustrated windows 8.1 user. Making just cases won't help us get serious about the problem cuz even after complete reinstall of windows and then installed all the required KB updates & the results was same error  0x8000F0922.

Vinpiny35?  What media did you use to reinstall your operating system?

Given that you got back to *exactly* the same spot can you state

a. what media source are you using to do a reinstall - OEM?

b.  if OEM - what exact computer vendor/model/build/specs?

Go to control panel

administrative tools

computer management and look at the drive space free in each partition.  Is there free space in the small system reserved partions?

Had this error ever since this update came up (Dell laptop upgraded from win7 to win8 with media center). Uninstalled the Cisco VPN today and the update finally worked!

When I contacted you, I was told I would have to pay $99.  I really resent you trying to jack me up for your failure.  I did not generate the problem, you did.  You should fix it for free.  And post the fix on line so everyone can get it.

I have followed every thread to try to make this update work.  I have 27 years of experience with Microsoft.  I am an MCSE.  I was highly incensed at the blackmail attempt.  I bought this computer last December from Dell.  I bought the upgrade to 8.1 from the Microsoft store in December.  Multiple updates have been done since then. Why should I have to pay Microsoft?  You pushed out the update, it is incumbent on you to fix it!!!

I continue to get error 0x800F0922 while attempting to install KB2919355.

I don't use a VPN Client and I have tried all the solutions listed in the 116+ pages of the previous thread over the past several weeks, with the exception of increasing the size of the “System Reserved Partition”.  Using the diskmgmt.msc reveals that my laptop (Lenovo T430 running Win 8.1 Pro x64) does not have a “System Reserved Partition”, per se.  The closest I get are one “EFI System Partition” and 3 “Recovery Partitions” – all of which are 100% unused.  Is this the problem?  Do I need to create a “System Reserved Partition”?  And if so, how does one go about doing that?

Similar to the situation mentioned by others, the KB2919355 update goes to 99% before rolling back.  All other MS updates received before and after this ugly brute have been installed without issue – including the update from Windows 8 to 8.1.  However, from the standpoint of time logged in attempting to resolve this failed install, Win 8.1 is the most expensive OS ever encountered by this sorry individual; and at this juncture, any and all (new) suggestions are welcomed.
