Update 02/22/2020:

Additional Information for users hitting temporary profile issue on 21/02/2020:

Microsoft is aware of some customers logging into temporary profile after installing KB4532693, on both versions 1903 and 1909.

  • Rebooting into Safe Mode* and then starting back in normal Mode should resolve this issue for most customers.
  • You may uninstall any secure banking software or anti-virus in the temporary profile which may resolve this if the above steps do not help.

*To boot into Safe mode, Click Shift+Restart button on the login screen, select Advanced options>Startup Settings>Select 1 for the booting to safe mode. Restarting the computer should start the computer in normal mode. For booting into Safe mode, you would be asked for a password instead of a PIN if you have set.

Your Feedback is highly encouraged as it helps Microsoft in identifying the root cause.

This update KB4532693 caused all the data on my laptop to be erased. Even after uninstalling the update, the laptop would not successfully boot. Then "Resetting" the laptop to factory settings while choosing to keep all personal data erased everything. EVERYTHING.

This is a major screw up. Unbelievable.

"In some cases the update also causes the ‘Reset this PC’ feature to fail for those wanting to wipe their machines clear." (https://metro.co.uk/2020/02/18/microsoft-pulls-disastrous-windows-10-security-patch-deletes-peoples-files-12255024/?ito=cbshare)

The problems with this update has cost me £300.00!

Following the download of this update, I was unable to access Windows Defender so then tried to reset, and then refresh, my laptop. As neither of these options worked, I assumed that my HP notebook was infected by a virus. Consequently, I have purchased a new laptop at the cost quoted above.

What are the plans to compensate customers for financial losses they have suffered as a result of the problems caused by this download?

I look forward to receiving your reply.

Sorry I did the support thing on Thursday for my Surface.  Not a good thing.  It's modeled after Verizon and ATT support where you go through several layers of compartmentalized support to convince someone you are not lying to them.  If you're successful escalating, the next day you find out the ticket is "declined" without any notice.  Then it's Groundhog Day, the movie, where you start over teaching someone how to use their machines.

I had the same problem, installed an update and everything is gone. I am not a IT person but I read on here to re-start 4 times and OMG it WORKED! I figured it probably couldn't hurt but I never thought it would fix it. It is a home computer so it might work differently on a professional computer. Good luck!
