Skype Insider Preview // Release Notes for Skype 8.59.76.26

The latest Insider build 8.59 is out and we are bringing you some new features like an option to directly send files from File Explorer to Skype or the ability to control your calls from Recent Chat list. Plus some bug fixes, performance and stability improvements as usual.

What's New?

Sharing is caring! We have added the ability to share files directly from File Explorer to Skype. The feature is part of the context menu of each file.

Improved call controls so you can end an ongoing call directly from your Recent Chat list. Moreover, you will see the call duration here.

Too many contacts? We have improved our deletion function so you can even delete multiple contacts right from the contact list. Just use the Shift or Ctrl/Cmd buttons.

Improved subscriptions searching for iOS - now on you can search for any available subscriptions

What’s fixed?

  • Skype is starting in foreground when it set to start in the background

The new features are rolling out gradually over the next couple of days so if you don’t see them right away, just check again soon!

Please let us know what you think about the latest changes, either here in the community or through the Skype app. And you can always go to Skype’s User Voice to submit and vote for new features and ideas.

Stay safe

The Skype Team

"Share is caring" unfortunately has no way to be disabled, like several Skype features also do not. For anyone wanting to, open an administrative command prompt and run:

REG DELETE "HKCR\*\shell\ShareWithSkype" /f

Regarding contact deletion, I'm still waiting for the ability to delete single contacts, which was a feature first announced with 8.57 several weeks ago and then re-announced with 8.58 for some reason. Here we are at 8.59 and it's still MIA. The only mention of "delete" here when right-clicking a contact is "Delete conversation," and that's not it.

This "new" electron version replacing the UWP version means:
- Higher cpu and ram usage

- It requires to be open and actually running to receive notifications

- Higher battery usage

- No inline responses from notifications

- No ARM version.

- What about other devices support like xbox, holoelns, hub

- Why with windows 10x coming make this app run in container instead of native?

- No more people app integration
- No more sync with outlook
- No more automatic MSA sign in
- No more good looking title bar

I think soon will be time to ditch Skype for me and my contacts, there is no more a single strong point to use it

P.s.

meanwhile I'm so glad Xbox app moved from electron to UWP

I dont care if its uwp or win32 but this new electron app is garbage. Its not good like vscode electron. This app lost too many features and runs horrible on my surface pro 7. I agree with this comment too. I inly used it to communicate with one contact but now I convinced him to move to discord after he agreed that new app garbage.

Keep Skype UWP, keep it beautiful, don't mess up another good app, as it happened with MS Edge, the new chromium one is a ****.

Hi rseiler,

To see the option to delete a contact you have to go to the Contact list (right click on a contact and you should see it) or to the contacts profile (scroll down and it should be there as-well). Please double check it you can see it now. If not please Report a Problem through the app, we will take a look at the logs.

Thanks!

Petr (Skype)

I'm just talking about the first way (it does show the second way, but I don't think that's new). Unless I misunderstood, it should be here:

Hey Peter,

My long messages are cut off. What's the word on that?

Link to [Skype Insider] Are your chat messages getting truncated on Android?

Miikka's article is from August 2019! It should be finally fixed. They plug holes to dig new ones elsewhere. Skype has become an endless construction site for years. There is always something that doesn't work.
