Hello Michael,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Office Community.

This error may occur if there is any issue with Office installation. Let's try the following methods and verify the result:

Method 1

Repair the Office suite following instructions mentioned in the below article and see if it helps:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/excel-help/repair-office-programs-HA010357402.aspx

Method 2

If issue still persists, run 'Fix it' from the following article to remove any remains of Office installation, re-install it and then try working with the Office applications and verify the result:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2739501

Note: Save the ‘Fix it’ before running it if you’re working on a 64 bit Windows.

If you face any issues while re-installing the Office suite, you may refer to the following KB article
which discusses about common Office installation issues and see if it helps:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2822317

Hope the above information helps. Please let me know to result and I'll be happy to help you further.

Thank you.

This is not a satisfactory response.

Your product wanted to update itself and so you should be able to manage how you update your product without failure. You should be able to block and unblock your own apps hampering your update.

This issue is persistent on a default install of Office 2013 with no other add-ins but the default, a local admin and using the account used to install office.

Get this fixed properly.

Same problem here. Tried method 1 but it didn't resolve the issue.

Method 2 is indeed not an acceptable approach.

This indeed needs to be fixed properly!

Have the same problem. Also when Disabling automatic Updates.

Somehow, the message will not show when starting word with one of the built-in templates.

Office worked fine, untill this week when this message started to show.

I do not feel much for reinstalling office and than getting the error back again.

I think Microsoft should come up with a better solution.

absolutely same from here, the template answers found here and there about doing standard stuff that does not fix it starts to be annoying. Microsoft, find a solution to this. Everytime moving from eg email to calender in outlooks or between different inbox folders, the message comes up

If it is a specific app integrated into outlook, then let us know so we can remove such at least until you fixes the problem permanently

thanks

I had disabled the click to run via one of the office apps and left it for several days. Today I tried the online repair, naturally that failed with the relevant error. I then just launched one of the apps and no longer shows the Update error or that it cannot update due to some add-on.

Same problem here. Windows 8, microsoft 365 subscription, office 2013 fresh installation 64-bit.

Problem started all of a sudden 2 days ago.

Reinstalling not a solution.

Please find a fix!

Daniel,

I agree with other posters in this thread - the Microsoft solution is unacceptable. I didn't have a problem until 27 Apr 14. I have a fresh install of win8.1.1 64bit with office 365/2013 and Visio 2007 and Project 2007. The sequence of installing Office 365/2013 then Office 2007 is required to prevent Office 2007 apps trying to install themselves every time launched. So I'm not impressed with having to uninstall all Office products then reinstall just to fix a Microsoft latent defect.

If my memory on consumer law serves me correctly, Microsoft has a latent defect that requires correction to ensure full advertised/specified product performance, and at no effort/cost to end consumer, and must be undertaken in a reasonable timeframe. Please publish an update ASAP to correct the latent defect in the Office 365/2013 product range. Thank you.

Update to post. I have for three other Win 8.1.1. laptops with separate Office 365/2013 licenses and accounts, and these now have the same issue.

22May13 Update.

Notified of latest Office Update. Installed Update and problem removed.

Absolutely agree. This is completely unacceptable.

Have exactly the same problem that occurred on 27th April. My new Vaio Pro laptop tells me I have the latest version of Office 365 and yet all Office 365 programs tell me 'there are updates ready to be applied but are blocked ....'

Made worse that when I then follow Microsoft advice for 'online repair' I get another error message 30029-4 that doesn't tell me what the problem is or how to fix.

I am not going to uninstall and reinstall.

Microsoft fix this now. Very annoying for your premium subscription service.
