MSN Money tickers stopped imporing in Excel

Everything was working in importing stock tickers in Excel until today.

I was using the familiar import from existing connections, selected MSN Money Investor Stock Quote and now received the following error message

We are improving the way that stock quotes are delivered to MSN Money users. Unfortunately, this means we are no longer able to provide financial market information to you in this format.

Any thoughts on how to get it to work now.

so sick of microsoft goofing around with things. Millions of Excel users, and they think that messing something up is what we want.

Hi,

The MSN Money Investor Stock Quote feature is only available in Excel 2007 and 2010. To import stock quotes using Excel 2016, you'll have to use an add-in from the Office Store called Stock Connector. To properly address your concern, we'd like to know which version of Excel are you currently using.

Meanwhile, you can refer to the following threads to find some methods to overcome this feature limitation:

MSN Stock Quotes in Excel not working

Is there no way to import stock quotes into excel 2016?

For further queries, feel free to post back.

Thank you.

Hi, I'm the developer of Stock Connector, which Angela mentioned below. It lets you put live-updating prices and daily Change% in Excel cells. It's available for free from the Office Store and works in Excel 2016 (Mac and PC), Excel 2013, Excel Online, and Excel for iPad.

It works differently from the MSN Money solution (you configure the cell connections with a task pane), but should let you accomplish the main goal of getting up-to-date stock info into Excel.

I've been getting a bunch of new folks coming over now that the MSN Money solution isn't working. So please try it out and let me know if I can make some changes to fit your needs better. Install link: https://store.office.com/en-001/app.aspx?assetid=WA104379220

Full disclosure: there's an optional contributions button that appears at the bottom of the task pane.

Here's a detailed description of the add-in: http://www.michael-saunders.com/stocksapp/pages/info.html

This seems helpful. It would have been very nice of Microsoft to give the link for this new add in,  while announcing the old mechanism does not work any more.  Announcing something is not going to work is not enough, it gives no clue on what to do next. It is sad that Microsoft expect people spend hours trying to figure out alternative while retiring old ways.

Michael,

I have Excel 2010 and cannot upgrade to Excel 2013 or 2016 in order to use your product.

Do you know of any product (for importing stock prices) that will work in Excel 2010?

Thanks!

Sorry, I'm not aware of free/cheap solutions that work in Office 2010. If you don't want to upgrade, another option would be to upload your Excel file to OneDrive (free up to 5 gb) and then use Stock Connector with Excel Online there.

Very nice plugin but this works only for Yahoo tickers which are worthless for me in the EU...

I need to work with ISIN, Bloomberg is even not sufficient enough.

Why does Microsoft take something offline while they have no substitute available???

At least offer people a way to run a portfolio in MSN!

A very frustrated Excel user...

Microsoft has done this before (i.e., disabled MSN Money from providing stock quotes to Excel). Many many people complained to Microsoft, and eventually they fixed the problem.

No one from Microsoft management follows this forum. We need to find a way to complain directly to the management in Microsoft who is responsible for making the decision to disable MSN Money from providing stock quotes to Excel.

Hmm, well it's possible Stock Connector might not support all of the tickers you need, but I've checked the top 3 European exchanges below, and they're all supported:

London Stock Exchange example: Lloyds (LLOY.L), works in Stock Connector

Euronext Exchange example: Peugeot (UG.PA), also works

Frankfurt Exchange, "Deutsche Börse" example: Volkswagen (VOW.F), also works

Try searching on Yahoo Finance for the European tickers: the format might be a little different depending on the platform (period instead of hyphen, different suffix, etc.) I agree that can be annoying to switch if you already have the tickers in another format.
