I need a product key

I recently purchased a new laptop computer from HP, but the OS disk and product key were not included.  They redirected my inquiry to Microsoft.  I need this to activate Excel.  Excel thoughtfully converted all of my Open Office spread sheets to the Excel format.  Now it won't give me access to them unless I enter a product key.  Please, send me a workable key as soon as possible.

Can you confirm that Microsoft Office was included with the purchase of your laptop? Microsoft Office requires an additional license, and is separate from the Windows 10 license that accompanies your laptop.

I do not have Microsoft Office.  This is the "Excel (Unlicensed Product)" that is attached to Windows, or maybe it's just out on the internet.  In any event it converted all of my Open Office spread sheets to Excel, many of which I have had for several years, and is now demanding a product key from me to access them.  This is one of the reasons I don't use Microsoft Office.

If you right click on one of those Excel files, then choose the "Open With" option in that menu, does it give you an option to open With Open Office?

What version of office are you using? Please give some details.

If you want to activate excel, you have to activate all the microsoft office product, and you can't activate a single one from them.

I have tried that but it just opened a blank spread sheet.  However, at your suggestion, I just tried it on several other spread sheets and they worked.  Perhaps it's just the one spread sheet that is corrupted.

I'm not using Microsoft Office.  I'm encountering "Excel (Unlicensed Product)", which I assume is part of Windows 10 or available on the internet.  In any event it changed my Open Office formats to Excel formats, even some I had never opened in Excel.
