Video Frame Clip

I am creating a website and have a demo document to input once it is finish.  I am trying to embed a video frame clip into it's position and would like it to stay in place when scrolling, but I'm unable to make this happen, what really take place is the video frame clip disappear and after closing the document the frame clip is on the screen.  How can  I fix the problem because I have multiple video frame clips that will embed in different place in the document.

Hi Dr. L. Clarke:

What is your Windows operating system (if Win 10 include the version and build number - see TechSmith's How to Check Windows 10 Build) and default browser, and what website builder software are you using to create your website (e.g., Wix, Wordpress, Adobe Dreamweaver CC, etc.)?

Please note that you've posted your question in the Windows Vista board of this forum, and extended support for the Vista SP2 operating system ended on 11-Apr-2017.  If you have a different OS we'll ask the forum moderators to move your question to the correct board.

The other problem I am facing is my PC which is a Dell OptiPlex 755 and this is running Window Vista Home Basic and the version is 6.0 (OS Build 6002: Service Pack2) This computer I am unable to connect through a hotspot device I am also using for my laptop.  Any suggestion will be appreciated.

Hi Dr. L. Clarke:

I'm still not clear what you're trying to achieve.  Is this demo document with the linked/embedded video just being used as a mock-up of your web site for the person building your site, or are you going to use it as a sample document (e.g., a mock newsletter) that can be used for testing downloads from your website while it's being built?

What software are you using to create this demo document on your Win 10 v1903 machine, and are you inserting a link to an online video (e.g., using Insert | Online Video in MS Word 2016) or trying to embed a video file inside the document (e.g., using Adobe Acrobat Pro to embed a .MOV video file into a PDF file as described in the Adobe support article Add Audio, Video, and Interactive Objects to PDFs - see comments about Playback Style and the "Play Content In Floating Window" setting that allows the video to run in a floating widow while the user is reading the page).  Any suggestions we might have will depend on the software you're using to create this document.

If the location of the video changes as you scroll through the document you might need to change the anchor for the placeholder.  If you used MS Word to create the document, for example, ensure File | Options | Display  | Object Anchors is enabled and see the How-To Geek article How to Position Images and Other Objects in Microsoft Word about the difference between the “Move Object With Text” and “Lock Anchor” options.

As for your WiFi connection problem with your Dell OptiPlex 755 running Vista SP2, what is the antivirus and default browser on this machine, and do you have the latest recommended driver for your wireless adapter?  I don't know if you have a 32-bit or 64-bit OS or what wireless adapter your OptiPlex desktop uses (check in the Windows Device Manager under Network Adapters) but I live in Canada and the Driver & Downloads tab on the Dell support page at https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-ca/product-support/product/optiplex-755/drivers indicates most OptiPlex 755 desktops sold in Canada come with a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini Card (latest certified driver version 5.10.38.26_A23 released 08-Jan-2014).  Enter the Service Tag for your OptiPlex 755 and that should recommend the latest certified driver for your wireless adapter.

This might be unrelated to your WiFi connection problem, but please note that there is a known issue with Vista SP2 computers where Windows Update can fail to run to completion and result in high CPU consumption that goes on for hours (or even days), resulting in poor system performance and unexpected glitches. This problem started around August 2015, and if you run a manual Windows Update (Control Panel | System and Maintenance | Windows Update | Check for Updates) and Windows Update seems to get stuck on "Checking for updates..." for more than 20 or 30 minutes see the VistaForums FAQ How to Fix Vista SP2 "Checking for Updates..." Hangs and Slow Windows Updates for more information.

Hello Great White North!

In reference to your response about my website and the software I am using the answer is yes to the demo document and it's a link/embedded video which is just a mock.  Also the software that I am using is the WPS Office which I tried using the insert tab then object and/or object imaging and the video clip when click only the like with the icon appears in the document.  As for the Dell OptiPlex 755 I haven't had a chance to look into the option you suggested, but as soon as I am able to I will let you know the results.

Hi Dr. L. Clarke:

Sorry, I've never used WPS Office for PC (formerly known as Kingsoft Office) so I won't be much help.  I was able to find a support article How to Add Video in WPS Presentation when I searched their Technical Support page at https://help.wps.com/pc-office but it sounds like you're using WPS Writer or WPS PDF to create your demo document.  I can't even find a link to a WPS user forum where you could post your question, so the quickest way to find an answer might be to contact WPS customer support via email at https://www.wps.com/support.

WPS Office for PC isn't a Microsoft product but if WPS customer support can't help you could try re-posting your question in the Apps on Windows 10 | Other Windows Apps | Productivity board at https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/apps_windows_10-winapps-appscat_productivity just in case there are WPS Office for PC users who post here in the Microsoft Answers community and could offer assistance.

Be sure to post back in this thread if you need further assistance with the WiFi connection problem on your Dell OptiPlex 755 / Vista SP2 machine.

FYI! I am currently searching for ways to fix and improve the problem without having to buy another PC because this on was given to me rather than discard, so this is what I accomplish earlier today from Dell website which is "Parts & Upgrade for your OptiPlex 755 Energy Smart DT" A memory board with the product information and is: Axiom - Memory - 2 GB - DIMM 240-pin - DDR1 - 800 MHz / PC2 - 6400.  I actually purchase this product on ebay a few minute ago so my question to you it what do you think and if you have any more suggestion as to other software that I can used.

I welcome your suggestion and appreciate your help and time.

Hi Dr. L. Clarke:

If you're refurbishing an old Vista computer I would do these first:

  • Confirm Service Pack 2 is installed (check at Control Panel | System and Maintenance | System) and then ensure your Vista SP2 OS is patched to the end of extended support on 11-Apr-2017 by following the instructions on page 1 of m#l's Updates not working, it has been searching for updates for hours.  If you require assistance patching your OS launch your Internet Explorer browser, go to Help | About Internet Explorer and let me know your current Update Versions (note that a Vista SP2 OS patched to 11-Apr-2017 should have IE9 v9.0.60 / KB4014661 or higher) and whether you have a 32-bit or 64-bit OS.
  • Install a reputable antivirus.  See Vistaar's Vista No Longer Supported by Most Security Software in the VistaForums for info on what antivirus programs are still compatible with Vista SP2.  I was using Norton Security v22.15.3 (released 15-Apr-2020, see <here>) but switched to Malwarebytes Premium v3.5.1 (released May 2018, see <here>) a short while ago for real-time AV protection on my Vista SP2 machine.
  • Use a browser that supports the latest TLS 1.3 connection protocols for connecting to secure https sites (note that IE9 patched to 11-Apr-2017 only supports TLS 1.1).  I use the EN-US version of Firefox v52.9.0 (released June 2018) and have changed the advanced settings to add TLS 1.3 support (i.e., by changing security.tls.version.max to a value of 4) as instructed in Martin Brinkmann's June 2017 ghacks.net article How to Enable TLS 1.3 Support in Firefox and Chrome.  Full offline installers for Firefox ESR v52.9.0 (all languages and regions) are posted at https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/52.9.0esr/win32/.

Please keep in mind that Vista SP2 has not received security updates since 11-Apr-2017 and many third-party programs that still run on Vista SP2 are no longer supported and/or insecure, so I would not recommend using any Vista SP2 machine to browse the internet, especially if you need a computer for online banking, shopping, etc.  I have a Win 10 Pro v1909 laptop that I use as my main computer and my Vista SP2 laptop is only used as a test machine.

If you need more help beyond what I've posted above please post a snaphot of your system components and software using Piriform's free Speccy utility (https://www.ccleaner.com/speccy).  After installation launch Speccy and allow it to collect information about your system, then go to File | Publish Snapshot and copy and paste the URL this generates (e.g., http: // speccy.piriform.com/results/xxx... as shown in the image below) in your next reply.

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you!  FYI, the current information you sent me is awesome and I was able to installed quiet a bit, but the only problem I am experiencing it the internet connection.  So here is the information on the wireless device that I am using for my laptop which is as follow: NETGEAR INC AC797 and this is being service by AT&T, but I'm not able to connect my OptiPlex 755 computer to this devise.  Any suggestion  will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

... the only problem I am experiencing it the internet connection.  So here is the information on the wireless device that I am using for my laptop which is as follow: NETGEAR INC AC797 and this is being service by AT&T, but I'm not able to connect my OptiPlex 755 computer to this devise...

Hi Dr. L. Clarke:

That Netgear AC797 AirCard 797 Mobile Hotspot is the external device that taps into a cellular network (like a smartphone does) and then shares that connection via WiFi with nearby laptops, tablets, and other devices that can connect to a WiFi network.

My 01-Jun-2020 question <above> was asking about the model and driver version of the WiFi adapter inside your Vista computer that allows you to make the connection to that mobile hotspot.  Go to Start | Control Panel | System and Maintenance | Device Manager, and expand the section labelled Network Adapter.  Find the name and model of your WiFi / Wireless adapter (my Vista SP2 laptop has an Intel Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN adapter as shown below; I'm guessing your Dell OptiPlex 755 desktop has a Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini Card).  If you  right-click on that WiFi adapter and choose Properties the current driver version should be listed on the Driver tab.

Unfortunately, updating the driver for your WiFi adapter might not solve the problem.  Page 67 of the Netgear AC797 AirCard 797 Mobile Hotspot user manual at http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/AC797/AC797_UM_EN.pdf has a section titled "Why Can't My Mobile Hotspot Connect to a Computer Running Windows Vista" which states that "A known issue exists whereby computers running Microsoft Windows Vista cannot obtain an IP address from certain routers.  More information and a fix are available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233".  That KB928233 article Windows Vista Can't Get an IP Address From Certain Routers or DHCP Servers suggests using an MS FixIT (EasyFix) tool to try to automatically fix the problem but those Vista MS FixIT tools are no longer available, so you would have to follow the instructions in that article to manually edit your Windows registry to change the DHCP BROADCAST flag for your adapter.  Before starting be sure to read the warnings about problems that can occur if you edit your registry incorrectly and how to backup your registry.  There is no guarantee this registry edit will actually fix your problem so if the instructions look too advanced for your level of technical expertise I'd suggest you contact AT&T Support at https://www.att.com/support/ or request help in the AT&T Community Forum at https://forums.att.com/ in case someone there has a simpler (and safer) solution.

Hope you're staying safe?

In reference to the window vista, I was given some information about getting a new motherboard from someone who had the same problem and replace his motherboard which resolved  the problem.

The other issues I am having is the website that I'm trying to create using the software WPS and I am not sure how to create drop down link in order to limit the initial pages so my question is: do I used the hyperlinked button and if so what is the correct way to accomplish this process.

I'm also trying two (2) other software which is: Cool office and now Open Office since yesterday, but thus far I am stuck so I would like your opinion on what software to use in order to move forward.

Thanks in advance for your assistant.

Dr. Clarke
