EDIT Feb 12, 2019:

UPDATE:

MS updated their information here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4464619/windows-10-update-history

"

Windows Update customers were recently affected by a network infrastructure event caused by an external DNS service provider’s global outage. A software update to the external provider’s DNS servers resulted in the distribution of corrupted DNS records that affected connectivity to the Windows Update service. The DNS records were restored by January 30, 2019 (00:10 UTC), but downstream effects continued. We believe the issue to be fully mitigated because the majority of local Internet Service Providers (ISP) have refreshed their DNS servers and customer services have been restored. If you are still encountering download failures, please contact your local ISP.

While this was not an issue with Microsoft’s services, we take any service disruption for our customers seriously. We will work with partners to better understand this so we can provide higher quality service in the future even across diverse global network providers.

Here, it was an overwhelming compulsion to comment on any of the "search box in explorer not available" threads like this one, which was closed recently.

The comment will go something like this:

"Of four explorer windows currently open, and tiled on desktop, three had search boxes available, one did not. Since all the explorer windows opened later had the search box, one can only assume the Windows search service was suspended or starting, at the time the explorer window without the search box, was launched."

This comment, in helping a small subset of subscribers with similar issues, also promotes insights to the answer to the above linked thread, which had also mentioned the Windows search service.

Thanks.

A good idea with a bunch of threads on the same topic, sort of following a little from what they do over at SO, is to leave one or two of the best ones open, with the altruistic notion that anyone coming in to comment won't wreck it with rants, roasts or "if this works, why can't I do that" requests.

Yeah.

On a click and a prayer,

Could someone modify title in the following thread to reflect customer/user is having issues with MS Support.

I forgot to do so myself before moving from V&M.

Thanks.
