I have aquestion about windows Defender on my new labtop ACER NITRO 5

I want to know the difference between Norton Security and windows defender and which one is enabled and how I can enable both of them and stop both of them if I want ?

I see this when I check which one is working on protecting my labtop what this means ?

Hi Alaa

You are currently using Norton Anti-virus and Defender is switched off

This is normal, when a 3rd party Security Suite is installed, the installer will turn Defender off to stop any conflicts

You cannot use both at the same time, if you want to use Defender, you must first uninstall Norton . . .

Hi Alaa,

Dave has described your current configuration exactly.

As it currently exists, only Norton is supplying your "real-time" protection, for the reason

that Dave has explained. And Windows Defender is deactivated.

However, you can configure Windows Defender into "passive" mode, which will allow it

to perform scans. On the Windows Defender "Virus and Threat Protection" screen", you should

find a "periodic scanning" button. (scroll down to see it.) If you turn this switch "on", Windows

Defender scans are available, but not "real-time" protection. Windows Defender "Offline" scan,

can be a very useful tool in certain situations.

Regards,  Glen
