Wifi Range Extender causing frequent disconnects

I recently bought a new Netgear WN2500RP range extender to help fill the dead spot my xbox is in.   I have no issue connecting to the 2.4 Ghz put out by the extender, and  when I test the connection using settings, the xbox says it connects to the internet. However, Live is frequently dropped or not connected to.  I'd be playing matchmaking on Halo 4 and chatting in a party, when I'd lose connection and then spend a lengthy time struggling to reconnect.

This occurred so often that the banhammer on Halo 4 gave me a ban for quitting, which was the final straw. My quarrel with the Halo 4 server is minor,, mostly regarding how a network disconnect is seen as a quit. However, it is Xbox Live's lack of connection that I'm concerned with. Is this a common problem with extenders? How can I fix it?

Thank you very much.
