Subscription lock when i boot up a Xbox 360 i just bought????

I have been out of the gaming loop for a few years just bought an pre-owned X-Box 360, turn it on, try to download my account, says cant connect to live, i go to test connection, Message pop's up, "Sorry, this console can't play until your subscription payments are up to date", what does this even mean? Its been wiped clean by other user as there are no profiles on the system.

What would be my first step in resolving this, i stopped using xbox cause of problems with there services... if this is gonna be something i cant fix then here i come PC Gaming.

Answer

You would need to try taking it back and exchanging it from where you purchased it. A few years ago you could purchase an Xbox as part of an "Entertainment for All" Plan. You'd purchase the console for $99 but you had to pay a monthly subscription as well. If you're getting that message it's because the previous owner stopped paying the subscription. Since they are the ones under contract, they would have to be the ones to contact support and cancel the subscription.
