Random Eject and Power Button Alert Sound

Hello,

I have searched through the Xbox Support forums and other sites trying to find this issue. If someone has already posted about the problem, my apologies.

I have an Xbox 360 S. My issue is this:

The sound that alerts when you press the Eject Sensor button or the Power button is randomly sounding during normal operation. There does not appear to be a pattern with any specific disc that is loaded, if any disc is loaded at all. It occurs at random and varies in frequency. The console may go several hours without it occurring or it may occur 3-4 times within a 5 minute period, regardless if I am playing an Arcade game, game disc or Netflix.

The console has rarely been moved and is in otherwise mint/same condition as when I removed it from its package seven months ago. It is within a fairly dust free environment and sits within a well-ventilated tv stand. I only use a soft cloth to wipe it with; I have already checked for skin oil or dirt that might be covering the sensor. I am guessing this is a hardware issue/failure, unless this alert is associated with software or programmed to go off for another reason.

There does not appear to be any other functional issue with the console. I admit I would be willing to tolerate the occasional pinging noise unless this is a sign of impending hardware failure. If there was a way to disable the sound altogether, I would have already done it. I rarely use those buttons anyway, preferring to power on and off, or eject discs via the controller. But curiosity has got the best of me here, and I would rather it not be alerting during serious game play or movie.

Any suggestions on what might be causing this, and is there any way to correct without having to go through repair/warranty? Thanks.

I kind of zipped through your post but I don't think I saw anything about you unplugging the console and replugging it in. If that does not fix the problem then I have no other way on how to help you. This is a very odd problem. Somebody else could have the answer for you so don't worry :D

To me, it does sound like a hardware problem. I recommend getting fixed by Xbox.

Unplug your xbox console from the Tv, leave the power still connected, boot the console. After about 10 seconds, turn off the console and plug back in the TV cables. This can fix the problem, it did for my slim console. If it does happen again try this again, or send it off for microsoft to repair for free, if it is still in warranty.

Hey everyone, the best solution for this has been outlined by lMlonstaa:

Except if this doesn't work immediately, please try leaving the console unplugged for a whole 24 hours.

it's pretty quick, it took about 3-4 days. Talk to a support guy in the chat room the support guy could answer your questions better then I could and the support guy will give you what you need to put on the box to mail your console to them
