Can't access Wireless Network despite Ethernet cable being unplugged.

Try going through the steps listed here at support.xbox.com and see if it helps you get set-up:

Of course I checked there, although everything said in that link was common sense and i'd tried it all anyway.

Now If someone could actually read my question and answer why the error message comes up when my ethernet cable ISNT plugged in, i'd be able to get to the bottom of this.

Well then, I did actually read your question and the only thing that comes to mind is that you have not switched your Network settings from "Wired" to "Wireless".  I figured that would be a somewhat embarrassing thing to overlook and hoped that providing that link for you might make you realize what was wrong as you went through the steps.  But, seeing as you're so full of common sense, I'll let you figure it out using it.

Obviously, when I try to press the button for wireless network is when the error message comes up >_>.

Sorry if I appear rude but I don't like being patronised. Ive been playing Xbox 360 for years, I know my way around one.  Ive never seen this error code before.

It happens when I try to click on wireless network. It seems to think there's an ethernet cable in the xbox but there isnt. Is this some kind of fault and can I fix it without sending my xbox in for repair?

Bump. I've checked the etherrnet port to see if any copper engraves have been bent, but theyre all fine. I really don't know what the problem is here =S

You have one clue in your OP:  "thunderstorm my router got fried and I had to get it replaced. With TalkTalk being a useless broadband company, my xbox doesnt connect to the internet through the cable (no idea why :S)"

I'll bet that the thunderstorm fried more that just your router...I bet it also burned out the ethernet port on your console.  This same exact scenario has happened to me.  Just a cursory looking at your ethernet port won't tell you if it is fried or not.  About the only way to check this is to take the same ethernet cord and connect it to another console and see if that console connects.  Or, vice versa, connect your console to someelse's ethernet cord and see if it works.

The only reason to get the message your describe is because the console is not detecting a wireless network.  

Make sure (1) that your replacement router is acutally broadcasting a wireless network (2) Check the wireless adapter itself to make sure it is working.  If it is, you should get a green light on it if/when it connects to a network.  If not, it will be red.

That's about all I can think of.  If your ethernet port is indeed blowed, a repair is all you can do.

Yeah thats what I feared, and i'll bet that the thunderstorm blew my laptop as well since that's not recognising my ethernet cable too. Annoying.

My Xbox has an inbuilt wireless adapter so im not sure how to check if it's faulty. Well thanks for the response, I guess i'm gonna have to send my xbox in and wait for a few weeks for it to get back. But not until im done with FFXIII, which should keep me busy for a while.

maybe it was just the cable. i am having the exact same problem except it was fine today and nothing fried it.

Sorry, i know this thread is a bit old and this message might not be read but.......i have the exact same issue. There was a thunderstorm a little while ago that fried my router (which was wired to my xbox) and now my xbox has trouble connecting to LIVE. It sometimes connects, and when it does it stays connected but when it won't connect it can take ages of fiddling round with routers and cables to get it connected.

I also have the same issue were the xbox still thinks there's an Ethernet cable connected (when there isn't) so i can't even connect wirelessly.

There is nothing wrong with the cable or the router because my laptop connects just fine through the same cable and my brothers xbox will connect just fine with the same cable and router.

I'm just a little confused  as sometimes i can get a perfect connection, which makes me think there's nothing wrong with the port. Most of the time it won't connect though.

Does it sound like my Ethernet card/adapter is dodgy?

I can repair it myself but don't wana disassemble the xbox and replace it just to find it wasn't the problem.

Is there a way to test the Ethernet card??

Hi,

It sounds like the lightening strike has damaged your Ethernet port, it is quite common. It isn't a user replaceable part I'm afraid you would have to have it repaired by Microsoft.
