Cannot Recover Gamertag

          I recently recovered my gamertag over at a friend's house the previous night. Upon returning home and trying to recover my gamertag here I'm prompted with the usual screens, after going to the recovery screen where it says "checking network status" A screen pops up reading "game couldn't start, try downloading the game again" .... Needless to say I'm a little confused, I tried a little troubleshooting on my own, and did the following

 

Checked network connection, connected to both internet and xbox live

Restarted my xbox, several times

Cleared my xbox harddrive memory cache

 

Still to no avail, if it helps, I have no game in the disc drive, no flash drive in any usb ports, and still can't get anywhere with this........ HELP!

Not sure how to fix the problem, but maybe it would be easier for you to go to your friends house with a flash drive and just put the gamertag on it to bring back and forth.

Make sure you have over 100mb for the download of the gamer profile.

Check your network connection in the system tab - make sure there are no-nat or transmission errors.

Sounds like you have done the rest that I could have suggested.

If you can't get back to the friend's house, as Onyx suggested, I recommend trying to recover to your USB device instead, to see if that makes any difference.
