Unable to synchronize with imap.123-reg.co.uk, error 0x800CCC0E

Split from this thread.

Hi, would really welcome some help please. Initially when I moved to Windows 10, Windows Live Mail appeared to be working fine but gradually errors have arisen to the point now where it is  not downloading emails for any of the accounts I have set up. The first issue was constantly setting message flags (still happening) and now I'm getting the following error message for each account;

Unable to send or receive messages for the [R*** P] account. Header download for the 'Inbox' folder did not complete. The connection to the server has failed.

Server Response: Your IMAP command could not be sent to the server, due to non-network errors. This could, for example, indicate a lack of memory on your system.

Server: 'imap.123-reg.co.uk'

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0E

Protocol: IMAP

Port: 143

Secure(SSL): No

And this one;

Your IMAP command could not be sent to the server, due to non-network errors. This could, for example, indicate a lack of memory on your system.

Configuration:
   Account: [removed]
   Server: imap.123-reg.co.uk
   User name: [removed]
   Protocol: IMAP
   Port: 143
   Secure(SSL): 0
   Code: 800ccc0e

I've tried the repair suggested by Ruth above but this has not resolved anything.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Server: 'imap.123-reg.co.uk'

...

Port: 143

Secure(SSL): No

I can't say why this account stopped working when it used to work. However, 123-reg specify the use of secured connections, so perhaps they've started insisting on it. Worth trying, at any rate:

Right-click on the account name in the folder pane and select Properties.

  • On the Servers tab

    • Ensure that the Email username is your full email address

    • Select Log on using clear text authentication

    • Select My server requires authentication

  • On the Advanced tab

    • Select This server requires a secure connection (SSL) for both incoming and outgoing mail.

    • If the outgoing mail server is smtp.123-reg.co.uk, change the server port for outgoing mail to 465

    • Change the server port for incoming mail to 993

  • Click Apply and OK

Remove any unsent messages from the outbox (below the account folders in the folder pane), then close down Windows Live Mail and wait a few minutes while the program does its housekeeping and stores the new security settings. Then re-launch the program, compose a new test message with a unique subject and send it to yourself. Post any new error message in your reply.

I've tried the repair suggested by Ruth above but this has not resolved anything.

That's not surprising. Errors like this are almost always caused by changes or faults either in server settings or client account settings. Repairing the Windows Essentials installation won't have any effect on these. It will ensure, though, that all program files are present and correct, and it won't hurt anything.
