Windows XP the specified domain either does not exist or could not be contacted

I would think that as long as XP has been around, Microsoft would have found a solution to this problem.

Everything that I have found won't do me any good, as I can't get past the password prompt. Either normal

or safemode. What am I supposed to do? I can't afford a new computer, so in the mean time I am without my main

computer.

Some pertinent information would be helpful.
