"file history drive disconnected" but is is not

Using my new HP box with Windows 8, Seagate FreeAgent Desk USB external drive (read as drive J) I get the message that it has been disconnected for too long.

Using WD MYBOOK network drive , I cannot use it as my file history using this program (windows File History)
