windows 8 will not connect automatically to the internet

Have a new laptop with Windows 8 and although all tick boxes are checked for automatic wifi connection to the internet I always have to do manually.  Have reset the laptop back to factory settings and started from scratch  but still the same problem.

2. Did you make any changes to the computer prior to the issue?
