One of the major features I loved about Windows 8 will no longer work, the Mail app. On November 9th, all of my non-MS accounts stopped syncing: Yahoo, Gmail, and AOL. On Nov. 16th, Hotmail finally quit. I have researched this and tried restarting the
computer, removing the accounts (from all PCs option), re-adding the accounts, resetting Windows Firewall, running the app repair tool and uninstalling and reinstalling Mail/Calendar/People, all to no avail. Upon reinstalling the app, it DID retrieve my Hotmail,
but the other accounts showed back up but said they couldn't sync. I removed them again, and now, they will not add back. All of them immediately say "Unable to connect. Ensure the information you've entered is correct." Which, believe me, I have. When I try
to add these as an "Other Account" with "Show More Details", entering all info, I get "We still can't find settings for <address>. Providing this additional info may help. If you don't know this information, search online or check with your provider."
I have figured out the problem myself. It was Avast! AntiVirus' Mail Shield that was keeping the app from connecting. Even adding the SSL exclusions to the list didn't work - I had to disable the Mail Shield entirely.
