Windows 10 Windows Update Error Error 0x80246008

Hello, I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and I wanted to install my updates but every time i try to it stops and gives me this error code Error 0x80246008. What should I do? Thanks.

Please run the Windows Update troubleshooter and then try to run the updates again.

  1. Click Start and type troubleshooting in the search box.
  2. Select Troubleshooting.
  3. Select View all on the top left corner.
  4. Run Windows update troubleshooter.

so I have the same problem on a Qosmio 64-bit win 10 home upgraded from window 7 home premium

do I go about resetting windows update the aggressive fix as mentioned here : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/windows-update-components-must-be-repaired/18f24cca-c1cc-43ad-9900-aa67008ba655

Here’s the quick easy way to fix this error:

  1. Open an admin CMD
  2. Type the following command:
    Reg add HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup
  3. Start the BITS again via the service console (services.msc)

Windows Update Troubleshooter did not find any reason for the update failures.

I opened the RegEdit and navigated to the key.  It did not have the FilesNotToBackup key.  I added that Key.  Then restarted with Background Intelligent Transfer, BITS, in the Services.msc.  I used the windows search back to locate the services.msc and started it.

This was exactly the fix that was needed.
