Live tiles not working Windows 10

So I did the update for windows 10 yesterday and the Live tiles actually worked.  They never worked in 8, 8.1, and beta version of 10.  Even on multiple pcs.

Today they stopped working.

  • I've tried unpinning and repining.
  • Turning live tiles on and off.
  • Adding new tiles.
  • Restarting.
  • Turning off all the extra apps I could.

I could really use some help.  I actually do like live tiles, just never got to use them.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I would request you to run System File Checker tool.

System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files.

Press Windows key + X and click Command Prompt (Admin)

Type the following command and press Enter

sfc /scannow

Note: Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.

Hope this information is helpful. Please feel free to reply in case you face any other issues with Windows in future.

I have this same problem and Your instruction haven't helped me. What should I do now? I've tried everything, even restore backup and again upgrade Windows 8.1 to 10.

I downloaded windows 10 iso and Reinstalled windows 10 ,you need to select the option that let's you keep your files but removes programs.. this worked for me I had to reinstall my programs but it did keep my files and reset the start menu.

I don't want to spend two days on reinstalling and configuring all programs. I think that the problem is related with WiFi. I change (in regedit) my connection from private to public, then I reconnect to WiFi and again change connection to private - then live tiles working but only for a few minutes.

I'm wondering whether the problem with live tiles is somehow related to RAM capacity. I tried your diagostics given above, but the verification showed no problems, yet my live tiles are dead and my laptop has 4GB RAM. My partner, on the other hand, has no problems with most of the apps on a 6GB RAM laptop.

Any other suggestions you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think the live tiles problems are related to RAM issues.  I have 16 GB RAM and have had no luck opening any of the live tiles.  I cannot open the Windows Store or any of the Windows apps (photos, calendar, mail, etc).  No luck with Microsoft online support and the problem has been escalated up the support chain.  I upgraded to Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 2 tablet with no problems.

Thanks for replying. I guess I'll have to report it too, although it seems that a lot of people are having the same issue. Sigh. Always the same with Microsoft products. Good luck with getting your lovely tablet working. I saw a Surface Pro once - gorgeous thing. Best regards

This didn't work on either of my devices with this problem. My laptop was working fine, but now it has the same problems as my other computer. I can get some tiles working by changing the size to medium, but that's only a temporary fix.  It seems to be a problem with background data not working correctly.

I have the same problem... worked once... long ago...  Amazing live tiles have been on the market for several years now and MS still hasn't gotten them to work correctly.
