copy and paste in File Explorer in Win10

When I copy a file from one directory and paste it to another directory which contains a file with the same name already this will fail. So it seems. In fact Windows 10 generates a popup window giving me the chance to skip or to overwrite the paste action. However.......... , said pop up is unvisible at first sight. It is hidden behind windows of other applications. Is there anyway to disable the popup to generate? Is there a way to have the popup appear on top level, at least visible on top of the window of Fite Explorer I am working with at the time of copying and pasting?

Hi,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community. I understand your concern and I am glad to assist you.

Have you made any changes to your computer prior to this?

Chance is that it could be a problem with the registry least you have not made any changes to it then it could also be because of corrupted system settings.

Method 2: Perform an SFC (System File Checker) scan on your system for any corrupted file settings.

1.   Press Windows + X on your keyboard.

2.   Select Command prompt admin.

3.   At the command prompt type “sfc /scannow” (no quotes), and then press ENTER.

Note: Do not close this Command Prompt window until the verification is 100% complete. The scan results will be shown after this process is finished.

If the issue remains unresolved then follow the step below.

DISM: Run the System update readiness command. It detects incorrect manifests, cabinets or registry data, it may replace the incorrect data with corrected version available. Follow the steps.

1. Press Windows key + X
Click command prompt (Run as administrator)

2.  In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press Enter key after each command:

3. DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

4.     To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter

Hope this helps. Get back to us for further queries. We are happy to help!

Thanks & Regards
Joy

Hi Joy,

Both methods suggested by you did not solve the problem. I hope you have some other ideas to tackle it.

Microsoft did not respond anymore. So I searched internet again. I found:

http://www.ghacks.net/2015/09/07/fix-file-dialog-prompts-not-spawning-in-the-foreground-in-windows-10/

Very interesting. It describes much more precise this problem users of Windows 10 (and 8) have to deal with. English is not my native language. Therefore I may not be able to express my severe discontent about how Microsoft think about its users properly. Microsoft still seems to act as a dictator without caring about the world beyond Microsoft. Idiotic!!

Why did MS think its a good idea to have a input prompt hidden which disallows the operations from continuing???  e.g. i get prompted to confirm the move of thumbnail index files, but the prompt is hidden.  While thinking all the files have been moved, I try to delete the folder, but of course I can't as there is still a thumbnail file present which has not yet been allowed to be moved.

Hi Joy,

Any word on an actual fix for this yet? We have close to a hundred computers at our company and they all exhibit the same dialog box problem. I really doubt that ALL the computers have "corrupted system settings", unless of course Windows 10 corrupts them.

I would have thought that after 6 months Microsoft would have released a patch for this, but that would indicate a software house working towards the needs of the user, rather than just trying to sell a new GUI.

If MS want to rescue their already tarnished reputation then it would be about time to start listening to the customers, rather than an out of touch hipster team whose expertise ends at facebook.

Regards

I too would like to know if this "feature" has ever been fixed.

I upgraded recently to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro and noticed this behavior after trying to copy or move some files. Windows 10 does this, not something that has been corrupted.

No dialog box that requires a response to allow an operation to continue should pop up behind ALL other windows on the screen.

At first I thought I had not properly moved some files and tried again only to get confused when nothing was happening. I finally noticed an item on the taskbar was different and found the dialog box had opened but was actually behind every other window I had open.  And it wasn't that I somehow clicked within the window and therefore sent the dialog box to the background, it was behind 3 others open windows that were staggered around the screen - NOT the window the dialog box was generated for.

After I had brought it to the front of the other windows, each time after that (while logged in) the dialog box would automatically pop up on top of the other windows. That is the behavior that should occur every time, even the first. The next time I shutdown or logged out, then logged in again, the first dialog box still always comes up behind all other windows, I bring it to the front, etc, etc...

This isn't normal, it's just a bug.

This is exactly what's happen in Windows 10.

Good explanation in the article found by AadvdA :

Dialog Prompt

It's like the bug of Window Lock Screen... a bug that anyone can see it immediately.

At start of the computer for Lock screen's bug or in this case when you manipulate files (zip, copy and replace, delete...).

It is not a very deep bug or a very hidden and very rare bug. No it is a bug that happens in first sight.

And Microsoft doesn't like to fix this kind of bug... Why? It is just unbelievable. And one year later, it is still there.

Please Mr. Microsoft, can you do something for your humble users about this bug ?
