"Bad Image Error" - msvcr120_clr0400.dll missing or contains an error

So this Curse Voice program I have installed worked perfectly fine on Windows 7. When I got 8.1 every time I tried to install it it has shown this "Curse.exe - bad image" error window saying "C:\Windows\System32\msvcr120_clr0400.dll is missing or contains an error." and telling me to try reinstalling the program or contacting their administration team. Also indicates "Error status 0xc0000020."

I tried reinstalling it multiple times, I installed .NET Framework.... 3? I think

It's still not working. Could someone please help?

Thanks :D

Hi,

Thanks for posting your query to Microsoft forum. I will certainly help you with this.

Msvcr120_clr0400.dll is a type of DLL file associated with Windows 8 Pro developed by Microsoft for the Windows Operating System. This issue could cause if the msvcr120_clr0400.dll file might have gone corrupted or not installed successfully.

Do you have Visual Studio installed on your computer?

I would suggest you to follow the methods below and check.

Method 1: Check your Recycle bin

Make sure you have not accidently deleted msvcp110.dll file. Check your Recycle bin to make sure its not there. If you find it just restore and see if you get the error again.

If the issue persists, follow method 2.

Method 2:

1. Click “Start”, type "services.msc" (without quotation marks) in the Search bar and press Enter.

Note: If UAC (User Account Control) window is prompted for permission to continue, please click “Continue”.

2. Double click “Volume Shadow Copy Service” and switch to “General” tab.

3. Change the “Startup type” to “Automatic” and click “Apply”.

4. Click “Start” and click “OK”.

If the issue persists, follow method 3.

Method 3: Download Visual C++ Redistributable

I would suggest you to uninstall all version of Visual Studio and re-install Visual Studio 2012 and then check for the issue. Download Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio from the Official Microsoft website. Install it once download. This step will replace the old corrupted file in most cases.

Hope this information is helpful. Please post back for further assistance, we'll be glad to assist you.

Dear Isha,

Method 1 I have checked, I have definitely not deleted or touched this file, I have just made a copy of it on the desktop AFTER the issue appeared, for backup. However, when I tried to replace it with that .dll file downloaded from the internet (I looked for some solutions, and found a source to get dll files from) it told me I don't have permission to edit the \System32 folder, even though I am an admin on this pc.

I have tried the method 2 to turn on the "Volume Shadow Copy" service, but it didn't solve the problem.

For the Method 3, I already have a bunch of Visual Redistributable on my Programs And Features list.

They got installed as a prerequisite for a game, Smite (not sure which ones of those, I think it's the ones 2012 Redistributable, since the date created seems right). If I have C++ Redistributable, do I need to uninstall t and g

et it again? Also, if I do so, is the newest version of Visual Redistrubutable going to be able to handle the tasks that my current Visual has?

Thanks,

Nanzulov
