USBPORT.sys Latency

Alright, so many people have been having issues with this and I'm ridiculously tired of it myself. I don't need someone to walk me through the baby steps of "Oh, make sure your drivers are up to date and your USB ports are cleaned" because I'm not stupid and have been trying to fix this for a long time and it's high time Microsoft stepped up and fixed it. So what's the solution? My issue is this:

Latency, latency everywhere. Anything related to audio has severe distortion, pops and lag spikes which also affects video in-game, believe it or not. Now, as I said, LatencyMon was kind enough to point out USBPORT.sys as being the intruding thorn and have actually narrowed down / part fixed the issue.

Intel(R) 8 Series USB Enhanced Host Controller #1 9C26 has been the issue that runs the port driver. Now, I have "uninstalled it" and can still use ports just fine, obviously and it works great. No more audio ****, BUT on restart, hey what do you know! The host controller is back. So how do I make it so when I uninstall it, it actually uninstalls? I've browsed the internet, licked my computer and performed VooDoo, but couldn't find anything / be guided. If someone else wants to fix the issue to begin with, that'd be wonderful as well. Thanks in advance and sorry if I sound angry, because I am.

Hello Kitten,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I understand how frustrating it could be when things do not work as expected and I appreciate your efforts towards resolving the issue. Let’s work together to get this problem resolved.

I would like to inform you that the mentioned “Intel(R) 8 Series USB Enhanced Host Controller” is not the issue. It might have been corrupt or unstable and when you uninstalled it, the default controller and driver was reinstalled as a part of default process replacing the corrupt version. So, if you see the host controller back, that is nothing much to worry about.

However, before we proceed I would require some more information to assist you better.

1. Do you see any yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager?

2. What is the make and model of the computer?

I would suggest you to try the following methods:

Method 1:

Run the Hardware troubleshooter.

Hardware troubleshooter is an automated tool that can find and automatically fix some problems with your laptop.

To do so, follow the steps given below:

a) Press the ‘Windows key + W’ key together from the keyboard.

b) Type Troubleshooter in the Search box and then press Enter.

c) Select Troubleshooting. Click on View all and select Hardware and Device troubleshooter.

d) Click next and follow the on-screen instructions.

If the above troubleshooter doesn’t help, then try method 2.

Method 2:

It seems that there are still some corrupted drivers existing in the device manager. I would suggest you to try the following steps to uninstall all the hidden drivers for USB [Universal Serial bus] host controller and restart the computer. Let the Windows install the generic drivers and then see if it helps you to fix the issue.

1. Press Windows key + X, click on Command Prompt (Admin).

Note: If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

2. Command prompt window will be open.

3. At the command prompt, type the following lines, pressing Enter after each line:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

cd\ %SystemRoot% \System32

start devmgmt.msc

4. Device manager Window will open.

5. Click on show hidden devices under View menu Tab.

6. Expand all the nods under device manager.

7. There would be many greyed out entries in device manager uninstall all the greyed out entries under all the nods and then restart the computer.

8. In the list of hardware categories, find and expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.

9. Right-click on every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click on Uninstall to remove them one at a time.

10. Restart the computer. On restart, Windows will re-install the generic drivers automatically.

11. Plug in the removable USB device and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

Hope the information helps. Let us know if you need further assistance with Windows related issues, we’ll be glad to assist you.

Thank you
