Task Scheduler: the operator or administrator has refused the request (0x800710E0)

I have several auto tasks scheduled running in the morning. They run a .cmd file.

I select the option "Run whether user is logged on or not". Anyway, my account never exists at all.

These jobs are running fine every day.

But the problem is once my domain password has changed. I need to update these tasks by opening each of them, and clicking "ok". Then it promotes my password, and I input my new password.

After that, these jobs cannot run at all. It shows " the operator or administrator has refused the request (0x800710E0)".

Any ideas?

Hi Xian,

When you say “domain password has changed”, is your computer connect to a domain?

If your computer is connected to a domain, then the issue you posted would be better suited for the IT Pro audience on TechNet. I would recommend posting your query in the TechNet Forums for further assistance:

I found the root cause. I think it's a bug of task scheduler.

you have to change something of your job, like trigger time. It will take effect, otherwise, only input the password will not help.

I hd the same issue and I found that you have to uncheck under conditions „Start the task only if the computer is on AC power“)

see also http://hmemcpy.com/2012/10/fixing-a-failed-scheduled-task-the-operator-or-administrator-has-refused-the-request-0x800710e0/

This usually happens when you try to schedule a task using an admin account that doesn't have a password.  At the end of the process task manager most likely warned you that you can't proceed without a password.  If at that moment you left the task manager open and went to create a password,  most likely when you returned to task manager, it did allow you to complete the task but the task would not run giving that error.  Now that you have a admin account with password proceed to delete the task and create a new one.  Also verify that at the general tab the author and the user running the account are the same just to be sure.  Sometimes having to many triggers gives this error.  Having the task at startup cover for all your options and ensures that the task runs as soon as windows boot-up.  Hope this helps...

The previous task instance may not have terminated for some reason. This setting may solve it:

- Task Settings

   - If the task is already running then the following rule applies

     - Stop the existing instance
