Windows 7 update reports need to install update to Windows update. This install always fails with error 8007371B. Thus unable to install system updates. This has been happening repeatedly since 6/14/12. Have run update troubleshooter and Fix-it but these
have no effect. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64.

I am having the same problem and so is most everyone I know. I have tried every suggestion for this in windows support, ran all the "Fix-it" scans, downloaded and installed a readiness tool for this twice, etc. When I run the fix-it scans, it claims
it did not detect any errors. The readiness tool for updating the update agent installed just fine, but the update itself will NOT install.
Microsoft support is about as helpful as my cat is when it comes to this problem. Actually, my cat is better. Support keeps telling to run the fix-it scan and tell them what errors I recieved AFTER I tell them that I ran fix it and it did not find any arrors.
My cat at least mashes different letters on the keyboard when she walks on it. >:(

We had this problem on most of the machines in our office.
download and install
Tweaking.com - Windows Repair (All in One) v1.8.0
go to step 4 backup the registry
go to start repairs tab, select start.
On the next screen, deselect all, then check Repair windows Update, press start.
This worked to resolve the issue. Shame on Microsoft!
