The DWM.exe service runs perfectly fine upon start-up and has an average memory usage of about 100-150MB. However, after using windows for few minutes, the DWM.exe skyrockets from 100-150MB to approximately around 1.5-2GB worth of active memory use.

I've same issue, so i turn windows theme to basic. And it's come back to normal. But still searching what cause the problem. Then i finally found that i used the high performace on power plan. Then I change it to balanced. And it works...everything back to normal. It's just an old laptop. That new to replace with the new one.

I found what creates the problem, at least on my laptop.
I use Opera GX, when i view www.twitch.com an popout the video into a new form, dwm.exe starts taking memory.
This resulting into 16GB in an hour.
When i normaly watch twitch, its goes up, but not as much as with the popout video.
It gets even worse when i have a second monitor attached, for some reason. ??

The same isue with Microsoft Surface Book 2 (with 16 Gb RAM, soldered so you can't increase the amount). Nothing from what is described here helps. One thing that actually does help is to kill the DWM.exe process from time to time and then it will get back to normal 150-200Mb. After working for a while kill it again. And again. And again. It is really weird to see how the Microsoft Windows 10 core service is eating the ram on the Microsoft high power laptop... frustrating to say the least.

Sir I have been facing the problem from two days and none of the methods which you have suggested didn't work.
I have installed eclipse java software and jdk, is the problem due to that?
Suspecting that it might have caused problem even i have deleted from my computer but it didn't work.

It will not work, no matter what methods you are going to use. The problem is related to installed version of Windows. It will only be fixed once you do factory reset of your PC.

This seems to work:
From a command prompt running as administrator execute
wpr -start Handle
wait about 5 seconds then execute:
wpr -stop Handle

Hi.
I've tried almost all the solutions here and the others but couldn't solve my annoy.
My windows 10 version is 21H1 and GPU engine is Nvidia 930 MX, and all the drivers are up to date.
As well, the options on adjust the performance settings are blank.
Is there anyone who can tell me the exact solution?
My dwm.exe keeps getting bigger on the memory. :(
Thank you.

Can I ask if you (or anyone else) have any external (specifically USB c) monitors plugged in when you get this issue? I've have a theory that the USB C drivers (provided by MS) have a memory leak that can be triggered by having your machine go to sleep while it's connected to a USB C monitor or hub. It usually manifests have resuming from sleep.
