Advance Slide Timing is VERY inconsistent

PowerPoint can take longer to prepare complex slides for display than it does to prep simple ones.  The same is probably true of simple (eg CUT) transitions vs the more elaborate ones.

It's possible that it waits the set amount of time prior to the transition then sets about preparing the slide for display.  If so, then the more complex the slide and transition, the more extra time it would add *beyond* the set transition time.

Does that seem to apply to your presentation?

If so, it might be possible to simplify the more complex slides by converting the contents to images rather than complex drawings.

Just for background info, this issue persisted on Powerpoint 2013 AND 2016.

So I set the advance slide timing to "20 seconds", and checked the checkbox on the left of "After" as well. I also set the duration to 00.01 with no sound and applied it to all of my slides. The problem persisted even if I had the effect on "None" and "Cut."

The problem is that the slide doesn't transition into the next slide after 20 seconds, it transitions after 21/22/23 seconds. Some slides transitioned at 20 seconds, whereas some slides transitioned after 23 seconds. I timed the transitions on my laptop and my desktop at the same time for comparisons and believe it or not, my laptop and desktop transition'd at different times.

Please fix this.

UPDATE: When I used Powerpoint 2010, there was no issue with the timing. 

I used Powerpoint 2007 because I still had it on my machine after updating to Office 2013. Whenever I use the more recent version of Office the timings are wrong so I've gone back to the 2007 version.

There are three times to consider - Transition time, Transition Effect time,  and Total Transition time.

Transition time + Transition Effect time = Total Transition time.

ex.  1

Your Transition Time =20.00

+

Your Transition Effect Time = 1.50 (split effect)

Total Transition Time =21.5

ex 2. 

Your Transition Time =20.00

+

Your Transition Effect Time= 2.00 (wind effect)

Total Transition Time=22.0

ex 3. 

Your Transition Time =20.00

+

Your Transition Effect Time = 0.70 (fade effect)

Total Transition Time=20.7

The answer is in the type of 'transition effect' you have chosen for each slide

 because the inherent nature of each effect needs a basic minimum time. Ex.'Wind Effect' cannot be completed in less than 2.0 secs..

Ex. You can,  set 'wind effect'  duration to 00.01 as you have done.

The program now has a dilemma, 'wind effect' requires a minimum 2.0 secs or you get no wind effect.

Powerpoint chooses (defaults to)  the correct minimum time (2.0) for a wind effect - keeping wind effect at the expense of your own 00.01 'duration' setting. 

To see this clearly go to the 'Transition' settings and set your duration to 00.01 as you have mentioned.

Now watch the 'duration' time change as you select different transition types.

For example, the 'morph effect' requires 2.0 sec, fade effect 0.70 sec, split effet 1.50 sec. etc.

If each slide has a different 'transition effect' each slide's 'total transition time' will differ.

To solve the problem:

Ex Wind Effect =2.0 sec set Transition to 18.0 sec so that Total Transition Time = 20.0 secs

Txs for your try at this answer... but the simple fact is that PPT 2007 works fine with the timings established during the "Rehearse Timings" session, and PPT 2013 and 2016 doesn't.  I just took a presentation with music needing precise page to page transitions, that I had struggled with for 2 days.  I dug out an old backup copy of PPT 2007, and it took me 10 minutes to do the presentation correctly.  I took that same good file, opened in PPT 2016, and it was a mess.  One clue to the problem: It seemed that the delayed transition to the next slide time started delaying more and more at each slide to the tune of + 2 secs. per slide. (appx.)   ie:  first slide was fine, second was delayed by about 2 secs, 3rd slide delayed by 4 secs. 4th slide delayed by 6 secs... and so on.  

I am runnning Win 10, on an i7 notebook with 16GB memory, and SSD drives, and Nividia 2GB Graphics accelerator.  Slides are only text.  It doesn't get any simpler.  Music is a simple mp3 file.  I even converted to wav file to see if it fixed the problem.  No it didn't.
