Windows 10 Insider Preview 15019 (rs_prerelease) - Error 0x80070002

I am getting this error updating from 15014 to 15019.

Windows Update is running.

On one attempt, I noticed the Windows Update screen progressed to "Initializing" but after a few minutes, the Settings app closed spontaneously.  When I re-opened the Settings>Update & security>Windows Update screen, I have the error shown in the subject.

Noticed another insider reported the same thing on 4 of his machine but he report was posted in another forum.

He just moved it.

Do a hard reboot.

I have 3 laptops.  The first took 5 reboots to get away from Initializing, the second took 4, and my old slow Lenovo X-61 took 9 times.

Just keep trying.

After installing the first two are working fine.  The third has no finished yet after 8 1/2 hours.  But it is getting there.

Did one reboot before reporting this issue.  Tried two more hard reboots after seeing your suggestion but still same error.

Did you look at Jason's post?
It took 9 hard reboots for my 3rd laptop.  Just finished.

Instead of forcing several restarts, I would suggest to reset WinRM service via PowerShell - see my addendum at the end of this blog post: http://borncity.com/win/2017/01/28/windows-10-build-15019-insider-preview-released/

I just wanted to report the final outcome of this update.

I retried the update in the morning without rebooting or resetting the WinRM service (I did this before seeing the above recommendations.)  This time, the update got past the Initialing stage but the update still failed.

After the initializing stage, it proceeded to the preparing for installation all the way to the 100% then failed and returned to Checking for update.  The following cycle repeated automatically at least 3 times:

- Checking for update

- Downloading to 100%

- Preparing to Install to 100%

- Fail and return to Checking for update

During the 4th time, I decided to restart Windows.  After that the update actually worked.  The UI stopped part way through the Downloading phase but I received an Action Center notification to restart to complete the update so I did and the update completed.

Thanks for everyone who helped.
