XBox Originals

My nephew purchased Crash Bandicoot : The Wrath of Cortex, and XBox Original, from the marketplace. However, when trying to run it, an error message says that the game requires an XBox hard drive. He has the 4 GB model and an external 16 GB USB drive. Is there a way to get the game to work? The description of the game on the marketplace says nothing about the game requiring a hard drive.
