Blood on the Ice - wont start

I've exited and entered Windhelm many times but no matter what I do the murder scene doesn't ever appear in the graveyard. I'm entering the city at night. Should I be entering at a specific time?

Some people are having a problem where the body will never show up and some people said they needed to leave for a bit and come back to Windhelm a few times and the quest would start. I hope it's the latter for your sake. Good luck.

Pickpocket the shatter-shield clan leader for the house key. Then go into the house that the butcher is supposedly staying in. Walk around and it starts right up.

I tried the pickpocketing route. Got into the house and found the secret room but the quest still never started.

I think I got a different glitch....I bought the house, went inside, the quest started so I searched for clues...found a heap of flyers, 2 journals, a "strange amulet", and the altar room in the cupboard....then I went out and talked to the old lady...and it gave me 1 text option, which was to accuse the court wizard...then she sent me to rat him out to the steward.......then the wizard got dragged off to the dungeon, quest complete....still don't really know what happened, or what that amulet does....it's still called "strange amulet" and has no effects......

I'm also having problems with this quest. I thought I'd caught the murderer, turns out I was wrong. I now know who the actual criminal is but i'm not sure what to do next. I followed him to his house in which he promptly attacked me, I fought back but he can't seem to die nor does the quest acknowledge that i've caught him. If I attack him the guards attack me. I'm worried that I may have done something wrong during the questline. It doesn't matter too much -- plenty of other quests to be getting on with. It's just a bit annoying.

My glitch won't allow me to buy the house. I talk to the Jarl's assistant and he says that there was some unpleasantness there and it's not for sale. It seems that there are different kinds of glitches with this quest and I'm thinking that they won't be addressed until January which is when Bethesda said they will deal with quests issues.

My husband was able to have the quest start with no problem on his playthrough which was annoying because I had saved up to buy that house and he's broke lol.

There is going to be another murder and it will restart the quest. The wizard didn't do it.
