XBOX SUPPORT WON'T LET ME CANCEL LIVE SERVICE BEFORE IT AUTO-RENEWS

I tried calling xbox support for my region 8/23/2011 when I noticed my account was about to be auto-renewed 8/25/2011. I gave the first person I spoke with all the personal information that went with my credit card as well as my account. He tells me this information is incorrect and he cannot access my account, without even offering other possible ways to verify and do so. Regardless, I explained several times to him and his suppervisor also, that I simply wanted to cancel the auto-renew, not change anything else on the account, since I can already access it online. He continues to tell me he can't do anything and that I would have to get on to my account and read the information from it to him the next business day. ALL I WANT IS TO NOT BE CHARGED! AND THEY WON'T LET ME STOP AUTO-RENEWAL ON MY ACCOUNT EVEN WITH ALL NECESSARY INFORMATION! I feel there is nothing I can do and Microsoft is simply taking my money from me. Am I being mugged over the internet?

You need to verify your billing information. The support rep told you some of your information is not correct. You would need to correct that before they can process anything. Head on over to billing.microsoft.com and double check everything. Once you take care of the misinformation I'm sure they would be glad to process your request.

Interesting how they won't check or authenticate information before purchasing limitless points with credit cards not associated with current information at all. But once I'd like to STOP them from CHARGING an account, all of a sudden they're checking personal information and making sure everything is in order before canceling a subscription and having a chance at keeping a long-time paying customer.

So what you want is for anybody to be allowed to call in to support with limited info about the account and be able to cancel subscriptions, and do what ever with your account. Xbox support does this to maintain security of your account when people call in to make changes.

Microsoft very obviously makes it much more difficult to cancel a subscription than to purchase more points with limited information and one can even log on to the account online with nothing more than the email address and password for said user. I can then start using the credit information Microsoft so graciously keeps unprotected on the manage/account page and can upgrade my service and purchase excess points up to hundreds of dollars WITHOUT any further authorization . But yes, to CANCEL any form of payment, they force you to call and make it impossible to adjust online. If there were a way to cancel this online, or simply a choice as whether or not to submit to an auto-renewal policy, security and problems of this kind would not be a customer issue.

Funny, most credit cards work like that in most retail shops. You swipe the card and sign, no further authorization required. Wegmans even has a policy of anything less than $50 and you don't even have to sign for it! No further authorization required. Most retail shops don't even compare the signature on the receipt to the signature on the credit card, if they even check it at all. If you shop online the only thing they require is the four digit code on the back of the card that anyone can read off it, original card owner or not. No further authorization required. Do you now see that your comment above is just ridiculous?

If they let anyone call to cancel a Live subscription without verifying information according to their policy then there would be nothing to stop me from calling them and telling them to cancel say your Live subscription. Wouldn't be very fun if it happened to someone who didn't want it done.

That is why MS tells everyone to keep their login information private. They have certain policies and protocols in place for a very good reason. I applaud them for not making it so easy to get anyone's account information.

I apologize, maybe I didn't make my point clear.

I can change, update, manage, and above all else give authorization to charge all the monies I can/want when signed in to my account on the LIVE website. This is more than likely possible because signing in is verification enough for one's account.

The only thing NOT accessible on this website is an option to stop a payment BEFORE it's charged, or to request the auto-renewal service be turned off. (See how your point is ridiculous)

All in all, arguing my point here is moot, because most people who use Xbox Live and Microsoft share my concern. I simply want anyone considering making a purchase from this company to be aware, they are very reluctant to remove any personal information they would like to continue using, and will make you jump through hoops to protect your own finances.

you are responcible for all purchases on your account

user security is on you

whoever accesses your xbox it is upto you to make sure they do not do anything that you do not wish

also you are required to verify you want to purchase Anything on xbox live

"this membership will renew"

do you really think that anyone in the world would like to reinput 10 lines of billing info everytime you buy something ?

subscriptions work the way they work because you are obiligated by the contract and the aggreement you signed by clicking purchase this

with the further note of this membership will renew

noone in the world would want MS to allow anyone with just bits peices of info when there is multiple lines of verification and they do not match

i would want MS to 100% verify it is ME who is making any account changes

(buying a membership or stuff i would hope its me or someone i trust using the console)

please read the terms of use

IF Microsoft were doing all they could to PROTECT(?) personal and financial information, then they would make it POSSIBLE for any customer to cancel and/or manage their financial information (along with auto-renewal options) online within a SECURE website as they do with all other transactions allowed after you've SIGNED IN with your personal data.

NOT force you to call and repeat at least three forms of identifying information in order to STOP an AUTO-RENEWAL to a no-name representative, whom, for all i know, is writing down everything I say and is planning on using it once he stops working there.

I also wish they FORCED people employed by the company to identify themselves when posting on the forums.

Alright so let me get this straight, your ranting about something when someone gave you a solution on how to actually fix your issue? Simply login to http://billing.microsoft.com, call them back up and simply give them that information clearly that information was old or something was wrong. They will cancel your auto-renewal as simple as that. Sitting here ranting and raving about something isn't going to help you nor the people reading through your thread. Just a simple suggestion to save yourself the headache.

Yes, this is correct.

No headaches, I solved my issue.

BUT, Microsoft DELIBERATELY makes it much more difficult to cancel/stop a charge, and it is this policy that has caused me problems, but mostly just wasted my invaluable time.

They have lost a long-term, loyal customer, and I think others should be aware of why.
