Xbox Live unable to connect caused by recent update?

So I think I'm having the same issue a lot of people are having, but I think mine may be a bit different.

First off I have an XBOX360 Slim 250GB connected wirelessly.

I hadn't played my XBOX in about 4 or 5 days. Then yesterday I hopped on to play with some friends. I get the message that there's an update for XBOX live.. So I start downloading it. Barely 10% of the way through the download it stalls. It tries to continue downloading 3 times then gives me a long error code (I forgot to write it down, but it was practically identical to some that I saw other people getting on here). Up until the update it was working perfectly fine and I had absolutely no issues with it whatsoever.

But the bit that (I think?) is different me is; whenever I test my connection it sometimes fails trying to connect to the network, other times it finds the network but not the internet, others it gets the internet but not XBOX live, and as I'll mention soon; rarely it connects to XBOX live fully. I think if I could get it to connect to XBOX Live I might have a chance at it completing the update through some miracle? But for now it won't prompt me to update because it cannot connect to live.

What I've tried:
- Turning our modem on and off again several times (By unplugging or by the button). OCCASIONALLY this causes it to ask me to update again and when I hit yes it gets to different stages of the update before stalling.
- Restoring to network factory defaults.
- Clearing the cache.

I know there's some USB method, but I lack a USB and I'm not sure how my MAC would deal with the files when I download them.

Oh and a final note is that we have another XBOX connected to our network which downloaded the update perfectly fine and hasn't had any issues.

you are not the only one this is the thread that I started and there are others, tried the usb method which I thought had worked but ..............

READ ON

Since update of XBOX LIVE around 19th February 2012;

Since the update around that time, I have been repeatedly diconnected, xbox freezing, not loading, game data lost, cannot connect at all.

Around 21st February 2012 Update required message. Update failed. did this many times.

Even had one message that said my internet connection was too slow to play Games on.  It has been adequate for the last 3 years, other computers and consoles are still ok.

23rd February 2012 Read on news there is a colouring issue with xbox live and an update is required.

Still unable to perform updates. Get various error codes.

Now read that xbox live has "voice recognition issues"

Try updates again, more error codes.

Read on forums and other places  that I appear to be one of many with similar issues.

I do hope these "Colour" and "Voice Recognition" issues which appear to be so serious that they have shut down a large proportion of gamers that PAY for the gaming service are resolved soon.

PS3 is getting more use than it normally does at the moment.

Attempt downloads again, still fails, try all sugestions regarding clearing caches etc. factory reset, connected xbox via cable

What shal I and others try next, we await the answer.

4.Plug the power cord back into the console.

5.Push the power button on the console. The tray should close the rest of the way, then the console should restart and display the Xbox Dashboard.

Important Do not use the controller button or the disc tray eject button to turn on the console for this step.

Thought this had been fixed when i was able to access the update but apparently not, from the lack of help from Microsoft kinda feel those with the problem should be compensated for the lack of service we have paid for

If this is not fixed by the end of the week I plan to call Microsoft and ask for compensation. I spent more then my fair share of money on this system. God damnit, once you play online, you can't go back to offline!

This is very true. Playing against other gamers is far better than any game against a machine, that is why we are so frustrated.

The problem does seen widespread just viewing this and other threads.

I have just tried again and still update fails.

Now have theses error codes.

397D-397F-A080-0F00-8007-2476

397D-0000-0800-0200-8015-1909

397D-0000-0800-0200-8015-1904

397D-397F-A080-0F00-8007-2EE2

I am going to attempt the update using a memory stick from this site as suggested in the "HELP" pages.

I will try this when I can find out where it is.

FOUND THE INSTUCTIONS AND LINK TO DO THE UPDATE VIA MEMORY STICK

Copied files to memory stick

Loaded them onto XBOX

Got error code

397D-397F-2600-0F00-C000-0034

TURNED OFF AND REMOVED INTERNAL 250 GB DRIVE

Tried again

Now a new code

8007-2EE2

Restarted XBOX

Now another code

Quite different to others.

7fffffff-00000000-00000000

Turned XBOX off and back on again

I  was then able to sign into XBOX Live.

Not all features seemed avaliable.

Did see 9 friends online but did not look at messages or what status/games playing etc.

Put a game in which loaded, I was then disconnected immeadiately from xbox live, game closed and received another code

397F-0000-D080-0200-8007-2746.

Please can Microsoft fix this soon, renewed XBOX Live a few weeks ago and cannot use it.

Looks like the PS3 until then.

Yeah, I was lurking around for a while, trying to figure out if I was alone and quickly found that I'm not.

It's really frustrating. I don't want to sound like some kind of selfish moron here, but we do pay for the service so we deserve to at least be given some information on what the problem is. I do hope we get something to make up for the inconvenience though; like maybe a few hundred MS points? ;)

All I remember of my code was there was a D in it in the first 8 digits.

397F-0000-D080-0200-80087-2746

I think that the download around 15th of February has completly corrupted my XBOX, it is just 12 months old as the previous one suffered the RROD. There aare people online, maybe it is only certain players that were on at certain times, certain versions of the console or which updates you had already installed.

All I know is that mine and others are not staying connected and unable to play games on the console..

Not much else that it is usefull for.

Same issue here.

397D-397F-A080-0F00-8007-2EE2

Damned update won't download properly... as of a few days ago.

Initially I thought it was just because I needed to give it a bit longer as I know a few downloads in the past have taken a long time...  but it doesn't seem to work no matter how long I leave it, nor however many times I retry it.

The Internet seems to be working fine for the computer at the moment, so it ain't that.

I guess Microsoft just screwed up...  -_-;

Sorry for that very quickly and excitedly written message.

But I managed to update! I don't know how though. What I did..

~Put Skyrim in

~Tried to load save and it told me I'd made the save on a later version.

~Got sad and put Black Ops in to play some combat training

~ All of a sudden it asks me to update xbox live and everything starts working!

So happy with my miracle :)
