Xbox Live Connection Can't find IP Address

My xbox cannot connect to xbox live because it says it cannot find the IP address however my brothers xbox works in his room and I even have tried to use it in his room and it still will not work. He has tried his xbox in my room and it also does not work. How would i fix this?

If you are wireless can you also state whether you are using the white or black external adapter or the Xbox 360S Internal adapter

I have a Xbox 360 Pro (White) with a 30 ft Ethernet cord running to my router which then runs to my modem and we have tried connecting it directly to the modem and it still did not work
