Xbox 360 4G HDD

I bought an xbox 360 4G thinking I wouldn't need a hard drive as I don't do much gaming... famous last words, eh?  lol

Well, when I went to amazon.com to look for drives, I noticed that there are cheaper non-Microsoft drives listed.  Will buying and installing one of the cheaper "generic" drives get my console banned?  I read the thread about ToU for the 4G but don't see that this topic is included (only modifying the console/software are covered and this would be installing another piece of hardware into the slot.

I have a NICE new gaming system (I haven't owned any type of gaming system since the original Nintendo) and I don't want to get ino trouble with it but I could use the extra $40 I save on a hard drive for another controller.

An answer would  be greatly appreciated.

You would not get banned for using an unofficial HDD, it may effect your consoles warranty though given its an unofficial product.

I know you are saving yourself $40 with the initial purchase, but I have heard some horror stories about 3rd party hardware for the 360. So in the long run it may well end up costing you more than the $40 you saved.

As well as the fact they are inferior to official products (and the MS HDD's have a 1 year warranty). And I have seen many threads where people have lost everything on their HDD's when using unofficial ones, that's not to say that does not happen with the official version, but it seems to be more seldom.

These are just my thoughts and others may think differently but I would seriously consider spending that extra $40 for the official 250GB HDD for the 360 's'

Thanks...  I didn't know about the possible voiding of my warranty.  I will stick with the MS HDD.

No worries, as I say its a possibility. Using 3rd party hardware may not affect your consoles warranty, but I wanted to let you know that  'it might'.

I definitely think you are making the right choice sticking to the official products, that way you can't go wrong and its nice to have it covered by MS for a year in case of issues.

And welcome to Live, enjoy your gaming...
