Wired connection problem

So i have an ethernet cable plugged into the back of my xbox and into my adapter (its wirelessly connected to my modem) when i go to test connection and click on wired it tells me i have no ethernet cable plugged in. My xbox live was working fine all night then i just disconnected, could i have possibly fried my ethernet cable? thanks for your help.

Try to get your Xbox console closer to the modem, so you can use an ethernet cable ONLY. If that still fails, try a different cable. And if that ALSO fails, I'd guess that the ethernet port of your console might be broken. :(
