HDD Transfer Issues Still, -now just got worse....

Ok, about a week ago, i posted about having issues transferring my content from a 20 gig HDD to my new 250 gig HDD. I own now, TWO microsoft hard drive transfer cables that both have failed me. I re-read the support page like a thousand times because usually these issues are user based not the hardware, but I KNOW its not.

So, now its gotten worse.... I put my old drive in the xbox and had the new harddrive connected via transfer cable. I went to system settings--->Memory and it only showed my original (20gb) harddrive and it displays my 250 gib HDD as a USB storage device. It told me I needed to format it in order to transfer... so i did so. It now maxes out at 16 gigs because it thinks its a harddrive. Later, i put the 250 gig harddrive into the xbox (without transfer cable, just normally attached) and it doesnt even read it at all. It says there is no storage device attached when i go to memory... Whats going on....this is turning out to be more trouble than its worth.

Since I haven't seen your first post, I'm sorry if you've already been asked any of this.

 

Double check the transfer cable and make sure it's a Microsoft brand cable. What you're describing is an issue that happens with a third party cable and unfortunately there's no way to reverse it. The Microsoft cable would be grey and should have "Microsoft" imprinted on the cable as well as on a sticker.

 

The only other piece of advice is try hooking it up the other way around. Since an earlier update, it shouldn't matter which way the hard drives are attached, but try putting the new hard drive on the console and attaching the old hard drive to the end of the transfer cable.

I have a licensed cable...it has the microsoft logo in the plastic part that connects to ur HDD

And the hard drive is official too right?

 

Since it's an issue with an actual Microsoft cable, support may be able to help you if you give them a call.

I belive the harddrive is official...i bought it of ebay and it came in the microsoft packaging...and when i put it in just to see if it works...i went to memory and it showed all the memory and it worked perfectly then....

On a somewhat of a side note, when u plug in the transfer cable and its all set up... the transfer window is supposed to automatically pop up or am i supposed to go to the settings memory stuff.

Also, when u buy, for example, the 250 gigbyte hardrive (the one for the white xbox arcade....NOT SLIM) from a store like best buy, does that come with a transfer kit in the box?

Coming from Ebay it's hard to tell if it's official or not. Yes, when you buy the hard drive it should come with the transfer cable. Here's a link to it from Best Buy - www.bestbuy.com/.../9874392.p hard drive&cp=1&lp=1
